Yea we're still around, just very busy!!
prizepete, I'm not quite sure what you mean by your question??
We've gotten away from using these pens as originally intended. One year was enough to know that chickens weren't too thrilled to live in this manner. We now use these pens for single...
This "ufc" you've mentioned, in every post you've made on this forum, appears to be a drop shipper as well…I could be wrong. Can you or anyone tell me what is different about the american homestead institute and every other hatchery? The claims on their site seems to be aimed at persuading the...
I've wanted to produce nothing but quality blue girls for some time now but I've been hesitant to tie up a pen with another project so I"m looking for advice. I haven't read any definitive info anywhere on using the splash variety in a breeding program so I'm curious…if using a copper hackled...
So I did some single matings this spring with the roo in question to clarify what genes he could be carrying and I've deduced that he must be a sport from a blue wheaten Ameraucana. Only 1 egg hatched from the dozen I bought…what are the odds?!
Heres some pics of his offspring when mated to a...
My experience with Mr. Horstman and his birds left much to be desired. I ordered chicks from 7 different sources last spring, he was the first person I ordered from and I received his chicks last. I ordered early January and got the chicks in mid April after a couple delays.
I was told...
So that would qualify it as just another snake oil product. I feed 18-20% year round and it can be hard to tell when the birds go through their first molt.
I've been googling poultry auctions/swaps trying to find some good pics of what people are using to transport their birds but I'm not having much luck. If there's any chickeneers that attend some auctions and happen to have some pics I would love to see them...so post em up!
I don't have any plans to breed her, I was just curious what she might be. She does look splash but I'm not sure if its feasible to get a splash cross breed. If I were to speculate that she is from a blue Isbar roo over a black copper Marans hen, is it possible?
I'm also still not certain what...
I ordered the mini chart from MOAC and it seemed worthless so I ordered their new bigger chart and its unusable as well. I'm hesitant to order the chart from MCCUSA just to be disappointed again. Am I missing something with these charts or are they more of a novelty item?
I have 5 different...
I suspect that the blrw's I have are probably on par with what your saying. Somedays I may only get a couple eggs out of a dozen hens..very aggravating. The Delaware hens that im using though are the best layers on the farm so maybe it will work out.
Great feedback!
I've seriously considered the ISA's but haven't tracked any down in my area. I would prefer to keep the shipping distance to a minimun so my choices are Cackle or Ideal.
I like how you think 3rivers and I hope to have a better program in the future. I've currently got...
Ive been searching a few different hatcherys and see that cackle has brown and gold sex links as well as red and black. Anyone have experience with either of those?
Sorry for the delay..life!
The excess calcium is the only thing I could point to but I dont know too much about poultry feeds so that doesn't say much. Im not dedicated to any particular brand of feed so im always changing it up, which I think is beneficial.
As for percentages, I would say I...
