Well we got an egg today! No clue who laid it. I was gone having surgery and the kids who are home on spring break didn't hear any unusual activity happening when they were near the coop harvesting strawberries... So who knows. It's a smallish egg, but I'm leaning towards it not belonging to the...
These are my husband's chickens. I told him he could get two. As you can see he has math issues. I also had preferred to get sexed chickens so we didn't have to play the waiting game. He went straight to the nearest feed store and brought these 3 home. They are about 4.5 months old now, we've...
We also got two dozen TJ eggs last month. Let them set, then in the incubator and not one, not even one showed any sign of fertility. For that to happen with two dozen, I suspect there was a packaging error. I picked up a new dozen at a different TJ's yesterday and will set at some point this...
I started seeds in my sewing room window and forgot about them long enough that the snap peas had time to vine up into the blinds! So I transplanted there, and left it all as is. Now have lettuce and snap peas (with pods on them) in my sewing room window.
Outside we've got tons more lettuce...
Bobby and Nobia's little chicken coop..
Hello welcome to our little chicken coop, run and gardening experience. We recently moved from Okinawa Japan to Twentynine Palms California. Bobby is a US. Marine with over 20 years of service and counting. Between us we have a total of 5 children, 2...
Thank you to those who responded. After talking to my local BYC friend (whom the eggs came from) and reading the responses here, it was decided to just leave them alone. As a result #2 has made her way into the world. This was the pipped egg I was concerned about. She came out with a huge force...
Our eggs finally pipped last night! Today was my first day at my new job so I had to leave this morning. My husband was home when the first chick finally came through it's shell completely. At the time I can not say how many other eggs were pipped, but I know at least one other one had pipped...

Well he finally stopped doing that late night. It was funny because the sound bit he found was only like 2 minutes, so he kept getting up to restart it. Nothings seems to have changed in that incubator. We were so hoping for a holiday weekend hatch, tomorrow everyone goes back to school...
Let me start by saying that I have one tough as nails husband. This guy is a Marine with over 20 years in the service. He can stop you in your tracks with one look. Seriously I've seen Marines scramble out of the way when the husband is headed in their direction.
That said. I found this man...
I'm a Husqvarna sewing machine fan myself. I sew on a Designer SE Limited Edition, however Husqvarna Viking has several really wonderful machines for all budgets!
Just make sure if you're buying online that the return process is easy, if you need to return it. Some will have you ship or take...
We've got blood rings and veining happening in our TJ eggs! This is our second batch of TJ eggs, the first had 2 that quit a couple days ago. This is a whole new batch, and we're very excited. Also have 4 local BYC'er eggs in lock down!! All showed movement yesterday. Going to be busy around here!

The last one with the dog really brought a smile to my face! My dogs of course being ill mannered labradors would have eaten the chicken. But those to creatures of yours seem perfectly content hanging out with another on a lazy sunday afternoon....
I also love planting. I had an amazing garden this past spring/summer. Grew just about everything I could plant and get to sprout here in the hot desert. Now that I know what works, I'll be able to make better use of my garden this year. My best advice is to really pay attention to your planting...
I'm not a pro, I've only hatched on chick. I recently gave up on some in my incubator that turned out to be good... but if there is one piece of advise that I can give you, not based on experience, but common sense. You have to step away from that incubator. You just have to stop. If I've...
I turned an old shipping crate into our temp bator. We used a plastic tub the first time around, but I wanted something a little more solid. The shipping crate is just pressed wood and u-nails, I just re-enforced everything and added some hardwire to the top.
