Oh thank you!!! Yes ours will be a cargo trailer. I’m just a worrier. This is already a stressful move. I do plan to feed them heavily the day before and morning of. We will be stopping every 4 hours to water them.
Well, thread title is pretty obvious. I’m very stressed about this. Already reduced my flocknfor the move. We have some things coming with us in a uhaul trailer. I’m wondering...is that suitable for my chickens? Will the exhaust fumes somehow be an issue. I read that on an old thread here and...
Hello. She did not pass during a procedure, she naturally went herself.
He warned me that not all necropsies show much of anything. They were never able to get a stool sample due to her not eating. He finds it odd that she was eating great without issue, but having undigested food in her poop...
Another update - he definitely feels like this is a nasty parasite or bacterial infection. She is on IV fluids, steroids and antibiotics. They are hoping for a stool sample but she is not eating, so they are forcing her to. They will give an update in the morning.
He also told me he is unsure...
Update - vet just got to her, as he’s working with her between surgeries.
She’s been on fluids and they are trying to get some protein and such into her. He’s about to run some examinations. Said she’s perked up a bit and is much more alert.
I agree that is it absolutely ridiculous to charge $130 for a necropsy. Additionally the state lab is two hours from me. I’m from Georgia actually, just another thing to love about that state (besides taxes).
I’m thinking it may be the visceral / neurological representation of the disease and...
On a more positive note, here’s some of my sassy birds.
Almost all of them have started moulting. My poor cinnamon queen and not pictured Easter egger are gettin a little ugly LOL
I’m just lucky this local vet has such a small fee for emergency services because I wouldn’t have been able to do this otherwise. If she makes it, I’ll probably be paying about $175 or so for everything. So I can’t complain.
I just want to know what’s going on. I’m such a control freak so I hate...
It’s so crazy how fragile they can be. Even if she does pass, at least I feel like I’ll have some kind of answer. I’ve had 2 deaths in the flock since May. A RIR that passed from EYP and thencurrent hens sister, who we culled.
I last dewormed everyone in June, so that will be coming up again soon.
That’s what I have found as I have searched also. The vet remarked that her abdomen felt a little hot, something I hadn’t noticed. I’m honestly more leading to infection now. But birds are so damn feeble. They get one thing and can succumb to another.
OKAY back to answering questions (in doing this so out of order lol).
Her sister did not present snot or any discharge. HOWEVER. She did present open mouthed breathing, extreme weight loss, loss of function of limbs, and lethargy.
I just find it so odd, because my other birds are pretty much...
I’m so sorry I’m doing this so out of order. LOL
State lab is so expensive. Vet will preform one if I wish. My husband does the culling and unfortunately he is working out of town right now. I can’t cull. I am a giant baby.
