I had a chick hatch at day 24 and was fine. Was a late chick in the hatch. Is it possible the incubator wasn't at temp fully?

80° and 49% here. No humidity is what Mom gets on the east side. There's a reason her wooden shed with no foundation from the 70s is still good. She hits the single digits in humidity during summer sometimes. Teens is normal. Getting nosebleeds from it happens. I prefer the moderate humidity...

Had a nasty mite infestation in 1 of the 5 silkie houses. So weird no sign in the pens on either side. Everyone is getting ivermectin tonight. Dawn Powerwash will absolutely kill mites when sprayed on them. There was a lot and I didn't have anything else I could think of except maybe the...

Swinging cage with wire bottom. Need the airflow under their skirts constantly. Or you could make a nice new nest in a place far away from their coop and move her to take care of chicks. That's a surefire way to break some of mine. They get so upset at being moved.

I've never had a silkie hen grow spurs. My roosters don't always grow spurs.

Half of Leven's right spur. He was catching on himself too much with those spiral things. Right was was about 6 inches long on him. I took 3 inches off

Oh yes, trying something to see if you can do it is always great. Means you get to know how it works. I've seen several people who are getting a dozen or more eggs a day with their relatively young large flocks put up many gallons of limed eggs. I just don't understand that. They'll have fresh...
