Sorry about that!
But about the ones that did hatch!!!
Another member of BYC is having trouble with an aggressive hen. Do you mind if I PM her this quote?
Thank you so much for your 2 cents!
I was talking to my DH about the hen this morning, and what you just said is about what I said to him.
Thank you!!!
(Double post warning)
My hen seems to be taking to brooding alright.
If she just gets on and off of the nest throughout the day and she doesn't really stay there, then how long should I give her of doing that before I just let her out?
I mean, she's spending time on the nest, and she's...
Thank you! =)
I hope all goes well with you chicks.
I've been keeping up, but I don't have experience to offer anything.
All the best to you and your hen and her chicks!!! =)
Thank you so much for this; it's very informative!!!
Yes, I can't put them in the incubator.
Unfortunately, I don't have fake eggs, so I have to use the actual eggs I need hatched.
The hen seems to be taking to brooding. She's not getting restless, and she's very protective of the eggs. She...
I'm posting this in both the Broody Hen threads I know of ("broody hen thread" and "old-fashioned broody hen hatchalong and informational thread"). I'm sorry for double posting, I just want to get as much information and advice as I can. Thanks.
I have some eggs I need hatched right away. I...
lol They might be. I hope not, but some chickens are more stubborn (or stupid) than others and ya just can do a thing with them.
Here's hoping yours learn to love their coop!!!
I had to figure out how to get mine to go into the coop on their own. I've tried feeding them in there at dusk, treats in there, going in there first, etc. What worked best was to figure out who the first chicken was to roost, b/c that's the one they all followed to roost where I didn't want...
Can you put a wire door on the nest box and place food and water inside for her. Or, if you can put some kind of a door or blockade (to keep the other hens out), would you be able to let/put her out each day (maybe twice a day)?
I like that "I'm watching you!" look!!! Cute chicks (of course!!!)
Yay for broodies!!!
Hopefully, !!!
Yay for momma hen!!!
Glad Ms Broody-butt is doing so well!!!
My broody's eggs were supposed to hatch this week.
She did lock down (no new broody poos). I started feeding and watering her right in front of her nest, so she didn't have to get up. She kept knocking the water over toward her nest.
After a couple of days, there was bloody diarrhea broody poo...
Thanks. I'm beginning to see that I'm going to start holding my breath if I don't know she's got something under there soon. I'm getting to the point where I don't care if she's hatched puppies; I just want to know what is going on in that mop bucket or if nothing is going on!!!!
Sorry.
My broody laid her own clutch of eggs, she started sitting on them all day thweeks ago yesterday, but she was getting up more than once a day until Friday.
When can I expect these eggs to start hatching?
I've enjoyed my first broody experience so far too. She's been in lockdown for about two days now (only eating/drinking what I place directly in front of her).
That's fantastic, a second generation broody!!! I'll have to wait until next year for that. =)
Oh, that seems to be the case with a...
