Got a nice shot of our little slw x rir cross!
We've been calling her "Chip" since she had a chipmunk feather pattern at hatch, but as her feathers come in, she's looking more like Dad in coloring.
As a follow-up to my previous post... I should have knocked on wood when I said Agnes was doing a "broody impression"... She is in fact full-blown broody. First time I've had a hatchery RIR go broody on me. She's very dedicated to the 8 eggs she's squirreled away. Fingers crossed, hatch day...
Sorry for a gif in the picture thread, but the motion really helps this one. Agnes, (RIR) does a full blown broody impression every time our Brahma rooster Willow is around.
She would be the first one. I'll keep an eye out for unusual bullying behavior when she joins the big girls.
She's 2 weeks old and currently in a mixed brooder along with:
- 2 Buff Orpingtons (3 weeks)
- 1 dark Brahma (1 week)
- 1 black Jersey giant (3 days)
If they start to pick on her...
My daughter has wanted a polish chicken for ages that she could name Effie (after the Hunger Games character) this year she got her wish. Meet Effie...
Willow meets the bubbies...
(Arslan has never been a fan of chicks, but Willow seems to like them. I have high hopes that he'll be a good dad someday.)
