    Helpful hints for building coops

I used branches for my 1st 3 hens but went to 2x4s for their comfort. They all went to the 2x4s immediately after I hung them.

Hello, new here and new to chickens.

I think you've got the roosts perfect right now, except a little further from the back wall. They are generally a heavier bird so lower roosts are good. The nest boxes look good too. You could put a 2x4" across the front so they'd have a smooth edge to land on while jumping up there. Or even a...

    Oldest Hen Age and Breed

I've had two live to 14. One buff orpington and one large Easter egger. The buff laid eggs every single year, from April until July. Every other day. The Easter egger quit at about 10 years old. I have a rir/polish cross thats about 8. She lays every 3 days now.

    Hardware Cloth help

Ist of all, don't order it from Amazon. China doesn't make decent products. I'd go to home Depot or a farm store and see how a good product feels. You will pay more but it's worth it to keep your chickens safe

chicken with crop issues - next steps

It looks like it was compacted to me, but I've only opened up 1 chicken years ago who passed away from an impacted gizzard. Her gizzard was full of what looked like old long grass. I got her from a place where both chickens I bought were skin and bones. One I still have, but the other one only...

    Water belly emergency...please help!

Thank you, but I still feel awful. I'm down to 3 hens now. Two are not friends with the docile one whom was friends with my ill bird. She's going to be heartbroken also.

    Water belly emergency...please help!

I think it's time for my hen too. It's so sad. And I feel so useless. She's walking around looking for something to eat in my kitchen but when I offer her egg yolk, meal worms or chick starter, she just looks and walks away. She's hungry but doesn't want to eat. I am going to try some...

Neighbor using strobe lights at coop at 5 every morning... remodel fix ideas?

I'd point a camera at the neighbor and take a phone video of the coop. Do you have any other neighbors that he's disturbing? If so, then ask them if they'd sign a complaint as well. I feel so sad for you. I am also an older woman and sick of the crap people do to one another.

Comment by 'catballou' in article 'How to treat sour crop and impacted crop and how to know which one you're dealing with'

I don't think I'd be feeding scratch right now. Flock feed mixed with some water would be easier to digest plus scratch has little nutritional benefit.

    Please Help~impacted gizzard?

I too am going thru a crop issue with my favorite hen. She has waterbelly, which I drain as needed, but she has had a lot of fluid in her crop. She vomits brown liquid when I pick her up out of the dog crate. Green and white runny watery poop for a week, but last night she ate some wet chick...

What to Feed a Chicken Who Won't Eat???

I've had chickens 11 and 12 years old. They never starved themselves. My current oldest is 8 or 9, and healthy as can be. She appears happy and is the boss of the flock.

    Water belly emergency...please help!

I know. Her comb is no longer blueish and it is standing up normally. I know she won't live long, but I'm going to do everything I can to keep her alive for as long as she is eating. I had to drain her again 2 days ago, 60 ml, and her comb was perfectly red again in the morning. She appears to...

What to Feed a Chicken Who Won't Eat???

Never treat for cocci unless you have a positive fecal test. Especially on an already ill bird.
