Aw what adorable babies. I miss mine being so little.
Well here is my newest problem...
Can anyone tell me what this is? It appeared overnight. They are firm like warts.
Yes I do have more in there. I guess I will try turning it more often. I am out there everyday anyway. I was watering in my pj's yesterday lol. I think I will add more straw and toss in some BOSS. Hopefully I can dry it out without having to take abunch out.
I have a RIR hen trying to sit.. I...
Elwood is very handsome, I am sure someone will snatch him up. Very nice birds!
I agree about the cold and worrying about animals. This year I have had to take some of the feed bags down off the walls (I staple them up to stop drafts) because the ammonia level is high in there and my DLM isn't...
Thank you so much for your help in this. Maybe I will just keep the yellow legged juvies and then breed them and start from there.. I want to make them better and am looking for a project so this would be a good one here.
It is nice today for sure and the wind has settled down here. I also have...
Hawkeye-- love the barns those are something to be proud of !!
Frizzledpink-- thanks I was so afraid of that on those 2 babies but so hoping that the blue was a pullet I think I may keep the yellow legged juvies and the darker mottled hen
She has yellow legs ,,, is the leg color always...
These are 2 of the month old cochin chicks. Can someone help me with sex?
And some other views of the youngsters for better analysis.
Blue mottled roo--white legs-- with the nosey little black mottled pullet
Blue mottled pullet--yellow legs--
Black mottled pullet--yellow legs-- (she doesn't...
Seems like this weekend will be a great time to get chicks outside. I have a group of 6 week old EE's that need to go out but some of the boys are not fully feathered in yet and I don't put heat out so I will just have to be careful. I don't want them to freeze but know it is time for them to...
Thank you. I am excited to see what develops from these guys. My son wanted a breeding project to do with me, he is 15 now and when your teenaged son wants to spend time and is excited about something you love I want to do this right for him. He said he wants to better the mottling and shape, I...
Thanks for the input. Should I keep and use the black mottled cockerel there? And the black mottled pullet?
I agree on ventilation as well. I keep everything open just like I would in summer.
Thank you Josie for all of your help. you have been a blessing. I cant wait to let these babies grow and see how their mottling developes. I think I will go with the black mottled cockerel, the nice black mottled pullet, the blue mottled pullet and the darker blue mottled hen not the one with...
Thanks Danz, I think I will use the black mottled boy. I still don't know about the leg color??? Maybe Josie will.
Okiequeenbee-- I love cochin and these are beautiful and I couldn't ask for a better opportunity with these nice birds. The decision is the hardest..
The cold came in fast,, I...
younger group -- blue mottled pullet
black mottled pullet
black mottled cockerel, he didn't like standing on the kennel much I will get a better pic of him
blue mottled cockerel, he is the only boy without yellow legs :( I still am not totally sure if that is important..
Thank you much. So the lighter girl with the bunny tail would be ok to use? The other girl wasn't looking at the camera but she is in one of the pics she is darker and less round tail. Also is it important that I make sure they have yellow legs?
So the round tail is not desirable? I can snap some more pics and post. The darker mottled hen wouldn't cooperate that day but she has a nice tail not rounded. So I could keep a blue mottled or black mottled and get blue, black or splash from the blue hens?
