So you have never raised meat birds before either? Which ones are you considering? How long have you had your chickens? How many and what kind do you have? Have you had to cull yet? So many things even for the small flock owner. Have you introduced new...
I had these questions too....about the farm next to us that borders our property. They have dozens of acres of soybean fields and I don't even know who owns it. I think they lease the land. I'm wondering if my chickens eat anything after the spring plant if they'll be sick.

I can't even TALK loud when I'm outside, they come running from anywhere across the yard, ....and when I come home after work the sound of the car pulling into the garage gets them running from the coop (it's dark now) to me. If I talk at all they swarm around me like I've come home...

That is my routine too! Can't get home fast enough.....and if there's traffic, no way to beat the dark. Mine free range but come out of the coop when they hear the car....they know I'm coming......
You might get both kinds of layers Some of mine started off laying in the yard....but now they lay in the nests. I left them in the coop for a longer period of time in the mornings so they got the idea. Now they are let out to free range in the morning and go back to the coop to lay. I have...
I would say it depends on the age more than the breed......If those are white leghorn pullets I would agree And what time period, can't be for the life of the hen! I've gotten 1 egg a day from mine...for a week at a time
