    Breda fowl

I love Bredas! I have raised them for several years now, both mottled and the bbs varieties. They are very talkative and the bbs are friendly, the mottleds not so much. There is an active FB page Breda fowl USA :)

Good looking birds. As I noted in my post, I find the mottled Breda a bit aloof and not keen on human contact, but my BBS are the opposite. They will feed from my hand and follow me around just in case I have treats. They are all lovely birds, quite talkative with a large vocabulary of sounds...

He is already fitting in nicely! I have a couple of Breda ladies in that flock so I will be gathering up the white eggs in hope of little blue babies! :) Since I re-arranged coops and have all the boys together now it has been very interesting to interact with them. The BBS boys will eat from my...

I can imagine how difficult that decision must have been for you :( Still, it worked out for the best all the way round. I'm sure someone will have a blue for you this year. I'm not sure if I will be hatching any this year - nearer the time I expect I will change my mind! My old Welsummer roo...

    d'Uccle color genetics

I'm assuming mine were not pure and it only happened with one bird. She seemed to fade in color over 2-3 years.

    d'Uccle color genetics

Well, that's what splash is. Usually one predominant color with "splashes" of other color seen on the feathers. The birds usually have only one color that splashes, but in theory I suppose you could have more than one splash color although I have never seen it. Not sure about that....

    d'Uccle color genetics

The black should be pure, but possibly will lose some depth of color over successive molts. I had a beautiful dark blue bird that over time has become almost a splash, so genetics can be iffy at times :) Not sure what you mean by "pure" splash since they are a mix?

    d'Uccle color genetics

You should get 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash. I have never seen a splash D'Uccle but I would imagine it looks something like this:

You should move their food inside for sure. Depending on how well ventilated your coop is you could move the water in but most folks say don't do it. Why? b/c the moisture from the poop and water increase the air moisture content which can lead to frrostbite in combs and wattles. If the coop is...
