@SamLockwood Thank you for your story. It helps to know that other chickens had similar injuries and gotten through it in time. Harvey, my gentle and beloved rooster seems a lot better now after around 3,5 - 4 weeks and is out with the flock again. Although we have kept him in his...
Thank you. I had read somewhere that a sprain would only take 2 - 3 weeks to heal, so that got me worried. Today he seemed slightly better and we let him join the girls.
I'll try and upload a short video of how he walks tomorrow (they were all asleep when I came home after work) @coach723
Hello there
my beautiful 2,5 year old rooster Harvey has been limping for several weeks. It seems to be one leg which remains stiff when walking (he looks a bit like a robot or military walking)
I checked his feet and they are clean, no wounds, nothing stuck, no visible infection, no swelling...
Hello
I would like to get an egg incubator (for chicken eggs) as a backup for when a broody leaves the nest prematurely.
Is the RCom a good brand? Or is the Brinsea better?
It would only be needed for a maximum of 12 eggs.
I am based in the UK.
Many thanks
Great article! I tried a few things already and they love their new 'climbing frame' but where afraid of the cabbage swinging back at them. Even after I tore off pieces and showed them, they just thought that the cabbage was out there to get them! 😆
After waiting for several months, I'm so excited to find little, green eggs! All Harvey's daughters are laying green eggs. He is a pure blood Cream Legbar and mated with Light Sussex and Daisybelles to produce these lovely brown and black green egg laying hybrids.
(egg on left is just for...
I read somewhere that the blue egg gene is dominant and therefore any female offspring from a Cream Legbar rooster lays blue/green eggs. All Harvey's (CL rooster) daughters are laying blue/green eggs (the egg on the left is just for comparison), which is great because I can breed again knowing...
I agree with the above comments; a Cream Legbar hen. This is a picture of one (albeit not 100% pure blood). Once she starts laying green eggs, you'll know it really is a cream legbar.
I've had 3 eggs with this amount of blood, so not just a one-off. I'm also worried, but there doesn't seem to be a hen which feels unwell and there is no blood on any of the hens bottoms.
Could mounting by the rooster cause this? But then again, our rooster doesn't seem to be overly eager or...
To be fair they have got a massive area with grass and small trees, but it's currently winter so there are no leaves on the trees. I sometimes empty the weed bucket in their run. They like it right enough, but flatten it within 10 minutes after which they look for escape routes and help me with...
