We have a lovely barnevelder roo and a mixed flock of hens including a lovely splash laced Wyandotte. Presumably breeding the two would result in something blue laced- would it be single laced like Wyandotte or double laced like barnevelder? Anyone done this cross and then back-crossed? Thanks!
Sorry for more silkies! I have 3 x 9-week olds- a black (with lots of gold leakage), a gold/buff and a mix! I’m pretty sure the mix is a cockerel - his feet are enormous and he’s about twice the size of the others/ his comb also has rows of bumps on it and is quite wide. The other 2 I’m less...
So I got back from trip to visit relatives with kids today and my husband told us one of the hens had sadly died. About an hour later, I was watering in the greenhouse when I heard a tapping sound from one of the small metal flowerpots stored just outside the shed. I turned it over, and there...
Hello! So we have 1 pullet and 1 cockerel from same breeder (from hatching eggs) who are like welsummers in every regard.... except that they have silked feathers. They are now 8 weeks old. There is no black skin or 5th toes to suggest any silkie in their make-up, and their shape is exactly...
So this chick was the most enormous one for ages, and we were so convinced he was a cockerel that we named him “the king”. But “his” legs are not as chunky as our other bcm roo (seen in the last pic) and his comb/wattles are nothing like as obvious. “He” could be a late developer, I know, but...
Hello! I totally realise it’s too early to be sure, but I’m desperate to know if this gorgeous chick is a boy or girl and I’m rubbish at waiting patiently 😅! He/she is 5 weeks old and has quite a worryingly. bright pink comb but no wattles at all... (I know the cream legbar behind is a boy!)...
Hello! We have 14 4week-old chicks hatched from eggs from different breeders.they all seem very healthy and active, are growing well and getting their grown-up plumage. However, 2 out of our 3 Welsummer chicks are feathering you very strangely- their wing feathers look ragged but the rest of...
I know it’s too early to tell really but this little splash laced Wyandotte is gorgeous & friendly and we’d love your thoughts on whether roo or pullet (Pete or Peggy 😅)! Thank you!
Hello - is it possible to tell from the early feathers whether a chick is splash or blue? Any thoughts on this 6-day old? Too early to tell? We are really hoping it’s a pulley but I fear it is a cockerel as quite big compared to other chicks! Thank you!
Hello - we have 14 x 3 day old chicks In our brooder - I had them on Aubiose bedding (hemp core) for a day and a half before I realised we were meant to cover it over. I’ve now covered it with kitchen paper but they have eaten quite a lot of the bedding and most of them have very large crops...
This little one has a paler dot on head but it’s not bright yellow like I’ve seen in pics - pullet or roo? Keeping to grow on anyway but just eager to know! 😃
Help! I have only previously used the Brinsea minis and maxis and have borrowed an Octagon from a friend for this big hatch. I assumed that they were the same for egg positioning and so have had the eggs laid on their sides. Now day 9. I just was browsing online and have just realised that the...
This is, we are pretty sure, a 10 wk old GLW roo but because "he" has a single comb, we aren't certain. He has beautiful lacing so we don 't want to dispatch him until we are sure- any help with certainty??:)
I couldn't find much advice on this in the existing threads - sorry if I've missed something. It's my first time hatching in an incubator (we have used broodies before).
I have 6 eggs in a Brinsea Mini Advance - 4 are showing signs of hatching. One big chick has hatched successfully (- HURRAY!!)...
