Hi all,
these are the feet of my 3y/o polish hen Bubbles. I’ve never had a problem with mites, but I didn’t even know they were a thing until recently. The scales on Bubbles legs have been raised for awhile, but they don’t have the crustiness which seems to go along with scaly leg mites (at...
Hi all,
well, this has been a difficult season for my chickens! I lost one earlier this year to a mysterious sickness, I just lost another to complications from sour crop, and now I have an Amerucana who can’t walk...I have two healthy hens outside in the coop right now (but they’re both...
Hi all. Ok, so my polish hen has been acting wierdly. This morning when I let her out she was drinking and eating etc, but I come a few hours later and she's roosting and the other are all outside. I brought her down with the others but she was acting really wierdly....closing one eye and...
Hi all!
So...unfortunately we built our coop and run on the hill...the valley part. And now since its raining so much the run is flooded. The coop is dry and fine, but there is water in the run. Will the chickens get sick?? We're planning on moving the coop and run when the weather clears up. I...
Hi there!
So tonight I was waiting for my one of my ameraucanas to get her last drink before putting her on the roost with the other (Trying to train her to use it :) I've given up with my silkies ) and as I picked her up this clear liquid came out of her beak. She was mouth breathing for a...
Hi there!
Just wondering, is this enough security against raccoons??
My chickens don't free range and are kept in a large covered, hardwire run with a raised coop connecting to it. The doors have three locks. All three have carabiners, and then you have to turn the knobs so the doors can open...
Hi!
I have a seven month silkie bantam and she is seriously broody! She sits on nothing or steals other chickens eggs. I DO NOT WANT HER BROODY, and I'm worried because she isn't eating and drinking....I've kept her outside the coop all day and whenever she'd try to brood I'd always put an ice...
Hi all!
One of my two Ameraucanas combs is significantly paler than the other. They're still sort of young (4 months) so their combs are small and, although it isn't like salmon pink pale it's definitely a lighter color. It seems to me to have always been like this. Is there anything I can do...
Just out watching my silkie bantam, then saw her chase and eat a bee! Will it hurt her or sting her? And what should you do in the future if any chicken gets stung??
Thanks!!!
Hi guys,
I have five beautiful hens who I absolutely adore, and I like to think they love me because they follow me around and always beg to be touched...
I am constantly worrying though about them and at the sign of anything unusual I jump onto google and start freaking out, even though it...
Hi guys!
So my polish just started laying a few days ago. After this egg I checked her vent because the last egg was a little bloody because it was her first! I noticed a white blob on her vent, then she kinda scooted away. She's eating and drinking, and when I checked it again the discharge...
So I'm leaving my five chickens for ten days for a trip. I have two people watching them, one a pet sitter, but I'm still freaked out. I'm so worried something will happen while I'm away and I just freak myself out!
What are some ways to make yourself feel more at peace when you leave your flock?
Hi!
So our family is leaving on a trip for about ten days and I have two people who are going to come and watch my five chickens. I don't let them free roam, scared to death of a hawk getting them, but their coop is huge and roomy. One of the people who is going to watch them, a pet sitter, came...
So I was cleaning out the coop this morning and saw in one of the poops blood! It was huge, and firm, and the blood was in the white cap area. Is this normal or something else? All the birds are acting fine...
So one of my family members put some stuff into the coop and some of that included mulch. It's ancient, like a decade old, but some of the birds ate some i think. It was two days ago and they're acting fine, so is it anything to worry about or no?
Hi all!
Every night my hens roost inside the coop and we close the door to the run for that extra protection. Its REALLY hot right now, and I'm wondering, what should I do to keep them cool inside the coop? Also, I've been misting the sand during the day in the run and putting ice in the water...
Hi!
I want to be sure NO predators can get into my coop because I love my hens TOO MUCH!!!! The run is completely enclosed in hardware cloth and it's very spacious and tall with a clear roof. The coop itself is raised with two doors on either side than can be opened and closed. They are secured...
Hi All!
My five girls are in an outside coop and the run is filled with sand. I noticed a lot of them sneezing sometimes, but they don't have any other signs of respiratory anything. I have a young Polish who, for the past months or so, has sometimes breathed through her mouth, sometimes not...
