Here are our two “pullets” and I’m hoping they stay that way but not sure. I have zero experience with this breed and sexing them seems more difficult for me. Thank you!
Hi! So I’ve raised chicks for about 3 years. But these two babies are our first brahmas and I’m clueless about sexing them. They are suppose to be pullets (Mt Healthy Hatchery), and are 4 1/2 weeks old. I know it may be a bit early, but appreciate any feedback and what to watch for. Thank you!
Picked up these girls from the local animal shelter. There were 13 total and the males had much bigger combs and waddles so hoping these are all girls. Are these Cochin mix? They have feathered feet and a bunch of pin feathers coming in. No clue on age or breed! But SUPER sweet!!!
Had to share! Our 11 Black Australorps are 19 1/2 weeks old today and our Celia laid her first egg!!! It's small but I've read that can be quite normal at first. We are so excited! It's like Christmas :)
Is it true that when pullets get bigger combs and waddles and they redden, then they are close to laying? My girls are 15 1/2 weeks and a its like all of a sudden their combs and waddles grew like crazy and reddened. Should I switch them to layer feed? These are my first babies.
I noticed this spot about 1 month ago. She’s 15 1/5 weeks and it doesn’t seem to bother her. Acting perfectly normal. I just don’t know what it is. Any ideas? It’s raised in a little lump
I was carrying a new tray into the run two days ago, when our 11, 12 week olds were startled and a couple flew. I spend a lot of time with the girls and a couple hours later I noticed one was hanging back. When I tried to give her some arugula, she could barely peck at it then I noticed her...
Hi all. We have 11, 12 weeks old hens. Our coop and run are kept meticulously clean, and they've never been exposed to other birds as we ordered them from cackle hatchery and are first time chicken people. I am with the chickens a lot in their covered run (pine pellets on floor over concrete). I...
We are just wrapping up our coop and run. We still need to finish up a few things but here’s how it looks so far. We are super excited to have the girls in their new home!
Hello! Complete newbie here raising 11 Black Australorps for eggs. As of today, our girls are 6 1/2 weeks old and we are just starting to get them use to the coop from the brooder. It’s been a journey as we built our own coop and have been learning along the way. I’ve spent over a year...
Hey All! I’m new to the boards and new to raising chicks. We have 11 Black Australorps who are now 6 1/2 weeks old. All of them pretty much get along and have been social. Just starting to acclimate them to the coop from the brooder. I’m posting pics and would love your feedback if you think...
