Hello, longtime reader, first time hatch-along thread maker.
2024 ended with me breaking my wrist, having surgery,
and rehoming my flock as I needed rest and couldn’t lift feed bags, etc for the foreseeable future.
However… now I feel like I could manage a little flock of little chickens...
I have two mamas with clutches right now. I started keeping both in their own dog kennels inside the big coop to them them on their eggs not switching to others, and have been taking mamas out for a coffee break 2x day.
Because they’ve been mostly isolated they now get picked on some during...
I set eggs under my broody yesterday but today found her on different eggs. I’d set her up in her preferred corner in a small pet carrier (with door removed). End of day today she was in the other nest box on a fresh clutch of today’s eggs and the ones I’d given her had gone cold. I put her...
My girl Gray didn’t make it into the coop at lockup and I just found a possum trying to drag her across the yard.
She has a gash near her tail feathers and small one on her neck. What is the best way to treat/clean?
I have her in a small crate in a dark bathroom for the night.
What’s going on with Mr. Fancy Pants? Pale comb yesterday, did not want to come out of the coop this morning.
Had messy dried poop around his butt but not plugging it. Cleaned & trimmed those feathers, have him inside in crate with electrolyte water & a scrambled egg.
Low energy. I’m...
I have a backyard flock of 12 for a couple of years and I’ve never wormed them. I do have a couple with very runny, brown poop this color: 💩 and a couple with persistent poopy butts in the back.
Not sure whose poop is whose so if I collected some of the runny poop and got a fecal do I then...
This was starting in one eye yesterday- now she’s keeping both shut? She can open one a little bit that I’ve seen but this explains why she’s almost never not under mama. Hatchmate is fine. There are only two of them, broody raised.

I found of of my bantam cochins dead in the water bucket this morning 😭😭😭
I don’t think she drowned though, she was curled up in it like a nest? It was in the 60s last night so maybe cold enough if wet to be too cold?
I feel terrible. Bucket was less full than usual, yesterday I skipped...
Do Silkies make odd noises… or is the squeaky sound coming from my eight week old mean possible roo?
It’s not a crow sound (yet?) but I’ve never heard a chicken make this noise 😂
Well heck, it’s day 9 and nothing seems to be happening with the eggs under my bantam cochin.
Do I need to hatch right now? Not really. But I was so excited for a hen to do it, and our little bantam cochin flock is so beautiful.
Daisy is on day 6 of sitting on 9 eggs. Yesterday her sister went broody too! Should I give sister some of Daisy’s clutch? I don’t especially want to hatch out more than what we’ve got going. But I could give her some fresh?
This is our Daisy, she’s gone broody and we gave her 9 of her and her sisters’ eggs to hatch. This is day 2 😍
I found incubating to be so stressful so I’m really excited to see how she does. She’s in our little bantam cochin flock of three hens & their beautiful rooster. She’s somehow even...
Ok, this is Muppet (chocolate) and Dandelion. Both three weeks old, not related. We corrected splayed leg in Dandelion then she had a week of pasty butt and protruding vent but has always had good energy, eating and drinking. She’s still very tiny, half the size of Muppet, who just grew a top...
1 1/2 week old Silkie chick. Corrected her splayed leg then on to persistent pasty butt. Cleaning 2x day for that. Trimmed away feathers but has this little buldge. What else to do?
So… my backyard flock is up to 11. I have one bantam rooster. The two chicks we got in Dec are finally mostly integrated into the mix. So things are peaceful. So of course at the poultry show I decide I can get five chicks, a real assortment, including my first Silkie. And then a day later take...
Hoping for feedback on this chick with splayed leg-

I know time is critical, thanks!
Just did a vet tape splint, does this look right? She is eager to move. Isolated in her own space, will get up on feet 6-7x today. Woman who hatched her yesterday says she’s already 80% better than yesterday after being in coffee cup overnight.
Also grabbed chick electrolytes and nutridrench...
