Time to play "hen or roo" again

Thanks you! You don't know how much I hope you're right!

Time to play "hen or roo" again

I have some better shots of my Silkie's comb, if you wouldn't mind taking a look. What do you think? I think she/he is around 11 weeks now.

12 Week Old Silkie - Hen or Roo?

Did your white one end up being a hen? I have one that looks just like this (same age too) and I'm just not sure if I have a hen or roo!

Time to play "hen or roo" again

Thanks for commiserating! I've gotten so attached, but roo's are illegal here 😭

Time to play "hen or roo" again

Really? That makes me so happy! I thought pullets didn't get wattles at all this young. Yay!

Time to play "hen or roo" again

I'm dying here because now I'm wondering if my Silkie is a roo too! I've got pictures of her and better ones of my Polish (who now has an even redder comb/waddle feature). Out of 5 new chicks I am not doing well here 😭

Time to play "hen or roo" again

Can anyone give me hope to cling to that my ~10week Barred Rock is not a roo? I'm hoping maybe she's just older than that and I was told the wrong age when I bought her. But she's starting to look roo-ish to me. Bonus points if you can weigh in on the Polish in the background whose comb looks...

My old gal is gasping :(

Yes, I know. But she doesn't have a full crop in the morning. And I'm thinking it's not sour crop either. There's been no improvement. Maybe it's a tumor 😭

My old gal is gasping :(

Thank you for the info. Definitely not egg binding... my almost-11-yr-old gal just laid another egg today. She is amazing! I am treating for sour crop because that seems to fit her symptoms best. But still concerned and curious as to why it's only at night.

My old gal is gasping :(

I need advice! My EE will be 11 years old in a couple weeks and I'm concerned she won't make it to her birthday. Every evening, when I shine a flashlight into the coop, she is there panting and gasping for air. There's liquid in her beak too. Here's the thing though: during the day she is fine...

Growth at base of beak between nostrils

Thanks for the replies! She's never had respiratory issues or drainage from the eyes, but YES the cold seems to be getting to her this year all of a sudden. She was always the hardy one, so it's unusual. Today is warmer and she is more lively and not tucking her head nearly as much! She was...

Growth at base of beak between nostrils

She's always been healthy, but this new thing where she basically sits with her head tucked most of the day has me worried :(

Growth at base of beak between nostrils

This is Bette, my Light Brahma (the old gal will be 8 this spring!) Lately, she's been acting lethargic and just sitting in the pen with her head tucked back into her shoulder area. She is eating well, poops look fine, no mites. BUT, I've noticed this growth at the base of her beak. Background...

    Bumps on eggs

My girl is still having the same problem with the bumps. Only now sometimes they are also INSIDE the egg. I crack it open and they are floating around with the yolk & whites. Also, many of her recent eggs have been "two-toned" — meaning the color isn't even. Weird stuff, but she will be 3 in May...

    Frostbite, Bumblefoot, or both?

Thank you, Eggcessive, that puts me at ease a little! I'm not sure if the scales are lifted, I don't think they are but I will keep an eye on them. THANK YOU for replying, I was worried!

    Frostbite, Bumblefoot, or both?

Hi All, I need some advice about this... my 3yo Buff Orp did not come through the horrid winter too well. I feel badly because right before we'd been hit with all the snowstorms I'd noticed one of her feet was a bit pink and saw that dark spot on the middle pad on one foot and I should have...

    Golden Comet Chickens, HELP!

I have a small flock of 5, with just one Golden Comet. She died out of the blue 3 weeks ago at just under 2.5 years of age. Just fell off her perch one morning, dead. I have no idea why, but I am wondering since reading your post if it could have been cancer. How can you tell? I inspected her...

HELP! Waddling hen, but can't find problem!

I felt into the vent for a stuck egg and found nothing. She agreed to the warm bath for about 10 minutes, then I dried her and put her in a dog crate in the house for the night. This morning her condition hasn't changed. My dear Greta is eating and pooping just fine though. I have to leave...

HELP! Waddling hen, but can't find problem!

Need emergency advice! I have a 15 month old Golden Comet acting very strangely. She just starting the symptoms today and I am leaving for vacation tomorrow! Plus, she is my favorite hen, so I'm a bit upset. Here's the situation: She has been a faithful layer (lays every morning almost without...
