I started out with using straw on the floor and next boxes but decided to try wood shavings. I use the pine and got them from TS for about $5 a bale. I have an 8X8 coop and it covered it very well. It's about 3 inches deep on the average. I also use it in the nesting boxes. They work very...
I ran an extension cord (one used in construction) to my coop to have electricity for my waterer and heat lamp. I took the idea from this site that was posted and made my own heater from a cookie tin and a 40 watt light bulb. I have a total of about $5 invested in it. I dont have a problem...
I only have this buff Orpington. It may be because it is her 1st egg. My Cochins dont lay that size. They are the white ones in the pic above. I will try to get a better picture.
This is not my first eggs but it is the first green egg. Do Orpingtons lay green eggs? The research I've read says light brown. The brown is from my RIR and the small white one is from one of my two Cochins. My Silkie isnt laying.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Today's high was in the 30's with sunny skies. I had no eggs this morning when I went to feed them before going to work. When I got home, I went to feed and water them and was very surprised to see 3 eggs. I get a brown egg every day from my RIR and one from one of my Cochin bantams. But...
My Silkies also enjoy the rain. All my other hens are either in the coop or under the tarp I have stretched across the top. But when it is feeding time they come running in the dry area because I know when to get out of the rain . I feel sorry for them so I take a towel with me and dry'em off...
I got mine back in August 2012. They are about 6 or 7 months old now. I like them very much. Can't wait until they start laying. I don't know how old they are when they do start laying. My grandsons have become very attached to them.
I have read every one of these post and the beautiful pics. I only guessed one or two of them. Now I have to wait until some post the answer. I am at work and will be logging off soon. I will log back on and check for the answer.
You guys are good.
