    Share Your Chicken Broth Recipes

Someone asked for my chicken broth recipe so I thought I'd start a thread so I can link to it and post mine. Hopefully others will share theirs or people can ask questions. When I butcher a chicken I cut it into serving pieces, the breast, wishbone, thighs, and drumsticks. These are for the...

    Preview problems

Preview is not working right this morning. Paragraph separations do not show up. Inserted photos show URL, not the photo. When I submit it, the submitted post is fine. It's just the previews that is wonky.

    Narragansett over Midget White

These turkey chicks are from a Narragansett tom over a Midget White hen. Are these sex links? If so, which are the male and which the female? Any idea how they might feather out? Thanks

    Mention in the Newspaper

A couple of articles on backyard chickens were in the local newspaper today. With all the requrements for registering before you can read the articles, I'm not sure everyone can read it, but it is a nice article. BYC was mentioned as a good resource for information in a couple of connecting...

On the Index page, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/index.php at the bottom under recent topics, could I suggest adding a column that shows which forum it is under. I don't think that would take up a lot of server space or display room. I often go from this page and sometimes misread...

New Chicks and Brooder * Pic Heavy

I just hatched 14 mutt chicks and one Midget White turkey. The chick’s father is a Speckled Sussex/Delaware cross and most of the mothers are crosses from that SS rooster and Black Australorp or Buff Orpington hens. Three hatched from my green egg laying red EE. I set this...

    Ozarkmomma, for you

Thought you might like some pictures of the chickens from your eggs. They are all about 20 weeks old in these photos. Of the five that hatched, one was a rooster. This photo does not do him justice. That red is a real bright orange-red. A gorgeous boy. Two of them looked like this. I...

    Taming a wild cat

We got a female cat over the holidays. It is fairly young, probably less than year old, and still has its claws. It will tolerate it if you pet or scratch it for a little while, but does not like to be handled. It hides from us and only comes out to eat, drink, and use the litter pan when we...

19 day old - pic heavy

A few shots of my 19 day olds. The rooster is a Speckled Sussex and I show what I am guessing the mamas are under the photos. This is juvenile plumage. From Henck's calculator I expect all the adult Buff Orpington and the adult female Delaware offspring to be pretty much solid red with the...

Speckled Sussex Roo x Delaware hen

Does anyone have photos of the female offspring of a Speckled Sussex rooster over a Delaware hen cross, either as chicks or in full adult plumage? I know these are red sex links, but I also have some chicks that are from a Speckled Sussex rooster over Buff Orpington hens and I want to be able...

    The Mamas and the Papa

A little help would be appreciated. First, the Mamas and the Papa, a Speckled Sussex rooster with Buff Orpington, Australorp, Delaware, and Speckled Sussex hens. Then the chicks. The black ones are pretty obvious, out of the Australorp hens. Not sex linked. The solid yellow one, on...

    New Cat - How Long

My wife just brought home a spayed and vaccinated cat. It has been an outside cat and we will continue with that. How long do I need to leave it locked in the garage with food and water so it recognized this is now its home? I don't want it to wander off when I let it outside.

    Lemon-Cream or Yellow-Gold photos

    Playing Possom

A couple of days ago, when I went to the coop to shut them in, about a half hour after sundown, I saw a possom in the coop. The chickens were quietly sitting on their roost, the possom was still on the floor, and I have not seen any harm done to them, so I was lucky to get there in time. My...
