In the spirit of helping to educate people about the virtues and history of the Campine breed, I have uploaded three historic, public domain articles on Campines.
They are as follows:
The Campine by Judge Card (1914)...
A Village Poultry Plant
by C.S. Valentine
(Country Life in America; August 1916)
When the latest United States census enumerated poultry, it took no account of any except that kept on farms, and thereby committed an egrarious blunder. Not only are large numbers of poultry kept in towns and...
I agree. In pigeons, we also see canker as a sign of some greater compromised immunity issue. Usually that is related to coccid outbreaks and/or respiratory issues, by the way. You can kind of see a pattern here.
It may be that the vet's intention is to throw the Ridzol at the protozoa in the...
Well, canker (Trichomoniasis) in pigeons is caused by an increase in naturally occurring protozoan in the bird's system. Ridzol (usually Ridzol 10 or Ridzol 20 is what is obtained for pigeons) is really Ronidazole, which was originally developed for swine. It is specifically an antiprotozoal...
You might find that Penny vanishes for a few weeks and reappears with a bunch of kids. It's getting to be that time of year.
This commonly occurs in flocks that are allowed considerable liberty to range.
Temp undoubtedly a tad high, hence an early hatch. On these premature hatches, I've seen them spread out over 72 plus hours from first to last hatch. I'd leave them be, distract yourself with something else and only check periodically.
If one is pipping this early, you are bound to have more in the next 24 hours. I'd lock them down and not be too concerned about the humidity beyond making sure they are nice and dry after hatching. You'd only be locking down a day early anyway.
Most of all: just take a deep breath ...
After trying one of these out on a complete whim because of the low price, I now have six of these incubators in regular use.
The instructions included were rather "iffy", but after reviewing videos on YouTube, operation became a breeze.
In addition to good hatches on my own eggs, I've even...
This is a well produced, modern reprint of "The Mating and Breeding of Poultry" by Lamon and Slocum.
It is issued in a large format and is a very thorough book of considerable size (372 pages).
The authors undertook considerable pains to create one of the most comprehensive and well...
Good Hamburgs are very hard to find and Citrons seem to be the hardest to find. If you are talking Bantams, it gets even harder!
And indeed, One Earth Farms have stopped breeding them.
I would suggest joining the newly organized Hamburg Club of North America. They are new, after the North...
I've bred Hamburgs and am still a fan. (Really good Hamburgs are hard to find, though. Still looking!).
They are classified as a Light Breed, but are not Bantam sized. (Bantam Hamburgs do exist and even harder to find).
Hamburgs are beautiful, good layers of medium sized white eggs (once they...
