    F1-F2-C1 question

I took biology in college and never came across chicken breeding.

    Never had a broody hen?

I have 25 broodies out of a laying flock of 50 hens. You are welcome to 20 of them if you are ever in Wa.

Need advice on a rooster with no legs

You did an excellent job with him! Thank you so much for sharing your story, it's been such a help to me. I have a Polish hen, Nora, who hid outside overnight in -8 degree weather with almost 3 feet of snow, and both her feet are frostbitten. I'm waiting for them to fall off and will get her...

    The best broody breed

I have English orpingtons. They go broody all summer. My lavenders are on their 2nd brood this summer and my chocolates are on their 3rd. You can have the 2 chocolates if you want. Seriously.

    Why is nobody laying?!

I'm surprised no one mentioned parasites as a cause for not laying eggs. I have tons of wild birds here and when my laying slows or I see bare butts, I treat them for mites. It works well, the laying increases after. It is a pain, since I have over 50 chickens ( I retire my old ladies to an old...

    Polish Chickens - Pullet/Cockeral

I'm voting both pullets. The white is, and the other's crest is too poofy for a boy.

    Chick pecked by mother

I have several sets of hens who choose to brood together and raise chicks together. This hasn't happened in the last 8 years I've been raising chickens. One pair hatches out the eggs and her partner takes the chicks. I don't separate broodies who brood together.

Can newly hatched chicks survive with the two mama hens who hatched them out?

I have 5 banty english orpingtons who brooded together last year and raised the chick together. Then 4 of them went broody again and raised those chicks together. They are broody this year also in a group. Weird.

What did you do with your flock today?

You should hear the one crow, lol. He sounds like an old squeaky door closing. At first I didn't know what the noise was, until I saw him trying so hard to crow.

    Eggs with blood in them

Yes, I am familiar with blood spots. She was saying that there was up to half the contents of the egg and a 7 or 9 day old embryo in 2 of them. (I sent her a video of egg incubation). It doesn't make sense that there would be both a lot of blood and an embryo in 2 eggs, and just a lot of blood...

That's a great idea! I will do that!

    Eggs with blood in them

Yes, I agree. I think she was looking for me to replace her frying pan too. I am going to drop her as a customer. I would rather give eggs away to people I like than deal with a problem person every week. She got free eggs last week too since she didn't see the post that I would be an hour late.

    Eggs with blood in them

One of my egg customers who is quite odd let me know that 3 of my eggs had blood in them. She said two of them had "a lot of blood" and she saw what looked like an embryo. I didn't ask her how much blood was a lot to her because I envisioned an egg that was 75% blood and told her her next dozen...

One of the reasons I am lucky to live here. I LOVE gyros! We only get them once or twice a year but yum!

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have 7 Black Copper Marans cockerel chicks to give away. I'm in Goldendale, WA. They are 8 weeks old and living outside. I also have a beautiful Lemon Cuckoo Orpington roo that needs a home. I was going to breed lemon cuckoos but it gets too hot for the orpingtons here so I'm slowly reducing...
