I bought several ducklings from a breeder 1 1/2 weeks ago including Cayuga, Pekin & mixed breed. The smallest 2 ducklings (not sure of actual ages & if these may be youngest) had very little sound when trying to chirp and have since lost all sound or “voice”. One seems to be eating fine & is...
Yesterday I had a 3rd duckling hatch! There are still 15-20 eggs still in the nest. My concern is that they have all been laid at different times over a 4 week span, so I am only expecting 1-2 to hatch every few days. I guess as long as my momma keeps sitting, they will be fine, but the last...
I have 2 ducklings that hatched yesterday & seem to be doing fine. I can see 1 more egg has pipped and should be hatched tomorrow. I am wondering if there can be too many eggs in the nest & it make it difficult for some that may be on the bottom to hatch or will the momma shift the eggs around...
Hard to see them, but had at least 2 ducklings in the nest today. I did find 1 broken shell outside of the house yesterday, so not sure of it came from one of them. Otherwise, don't know where the other broken shell is. Both look to be healthy!

Good news... I am still awaiting my first duckling to start hatching. Tomorrow is 28 days since momma started sitting. Just finished re-arranging the duck pen to separate the drake & other female, momma duck & my other younger ducks.
She has been laying eggs since last fall, but first time for her to go broody. I got my original ducks about 2 years ago & knew nothing about them. I have been learning as I go. We have lost many to predators so this is the first time I've had one go broody. I welcome any advice or shared...
I have learned my lesson too many times with predators. I have lost full grown ducks during the day to hawks and at night to a bobcate while free roaming around our pond and many more inside their fenced area at night to an owl. The owl left only pieces of flesh and feathers I now have...
I am in the same situation. This Thursday will be exactly 4 weeks since by momma duck starting sitting on the first eggs. She and the other female continued to lay eggs for several more days. I don't think she is still laying, but my 2nd female has continued to occasionally lay more eggs in...
Here is what we have built. My ducks are allowed to be free range only when we are home. We live on 6 acres with a pond, though near a neighborhood and my ducks tends to wander a little too far some times! Still needs some improvements as our duck population grows. Currently trying to...
Should the dominant drake be completely separated out of sight or is it ok to still have him in an enclosure inside their larger fenced area so he is separated from others by a fence?
I have thought about separating the dominant drake, but I did not know if this would be cruel to him since I have read that ducks can become depressed if by themselves since they are such social animals. If I do separate him, should it be completely away from the others or can it be in another...
I need help on how to get different age groups of duck to get along. I have a male Pekin with 2 female Khaki Campbell/Buff (not sure what they are) that have been together for over 1 year now. We now have 2 new Pekin and 2 mallards. My older Pekin keeps bullying the 2 new Pekins. All 3 sets...
