Free Copper Marans x Salmon Faverolle, Light Araucana Roosters! Columbus, MT

I tried that with my most recent hatching (can you believe I tried again??) - three roosters out of three hatching eggs. They did OK until they saw the hens in the run. Then the mellow one got trounced. Ugh.

Looks like a Barred Rock, but Not!

Hi. I have a hen that was supposed to be a Silver Wyandotte. She is not that, nor the Barred rock she resembles. She is smaller in stature, lighter barring, and regularly lays XL white eggs. Any idea what she might be?

Netting for over a large run

I'm definitely interested in ideas from this thread as we've discussed a larger "run" area as well. We also have coyotes that circumvent the electric fence at times. Is there a way that won't break the bank to predator-proof aerial and ground dangers over large areas?

    Eggshell color change?

I had the same problem this week! My Australorp usually lays round coppery eggs, but I got an almost white one yesterday and was concerned. Guessing it might have been hers because of the shape -all 6 of my hens lay brown eggs. She has had a rough winter, frostbite and now the others are picking...

    Frostbite prevention

Hi All, Here is the latest update; unfortunately, we are STILL having problems... To-date, we have added 3 - 6" chimney vents to the high side of the ceiling, and 5 - 2" hole vents along the bedding level at the front and back of the coop. The girls are still getting spots of frostbite, and...

    Frostbite prevention

@Egghead_Jr, thanks for the technical explanation, it's very helpful. I have a couple questions/concerns. My low side is mostly comprised of the two doors. Not sure there is room for vent holes (though I will measure!). Also, the hens are indeed almost at roof level on the low side. I do have...
