What did you do in the garden today?

I hate Round-Up! Never knew farmers using it. I thought it's just for killing home weeds. I use 40% vinegar or hot water to kill weeds around my garden.

Is this a Bantam Splash Ameraucana?

I'm waiting for my chicks growing up to see if my steele egger is really a bantam or not. I ordered two silkies but the white silkie failed to thrive, so my buff silkie needs a bantam friend. She does keep up with all other big girls so far though.

Is this a Bantam Splash Ameraucana?

She might checked the order information that said you have a bantam. However, my order also said that I got a splash silkie, but I showed them a picture and they admitted it's a buff silkie.

Is this a Bantam Splash Ameraucana?

I guess you got them from Meyer? I'm wondering about my Steel egger bantam is a standard size one too. I got her to be a friend to my silkie but she's almost twice the size and is bigger than my buckeye and australop! Plus, they sent me a Buff silkie instead of the splash silkie I ordered. :hmm

What did you do in the garden today?

In my experience, neem oil works better than soap. If it still doesn't work, I will start Pyrethrin. It's still natural and biodegradable, but you need to spray it after sunset to avoid hurting bees.

What did you do in the garden today?

I have momotaro, pineapple, and apricot zebra tomato plants this year. These types are all new for me. I also grow some Park's Whopper this year, since it's always doing well here.

Local Fresh Eggs Help with Allergies

My son has egg allergy, but he's only allergic to store bought eggs including organic eggs and never had problems with our hen's eggs. I always wonder what makes the difference.

Yellow poo in my bantam hen

Yellow diarrhea could be caused by lots of different reasons: live failure, infection, worm, vent gleet, etc. Read about these things and compare the symptoms to see if you can have a better diagnosis. Does it look like vent gleet? If so, treat it with Miconazole. When did you deworm last time...

What did you do in the garden today?

I used this one before. Because it wouldn't affect hawks and owls, it's the first poison I tried. Unfortunately, while coons were not interested in it, it didn't kill the voles. So I had to switch to the first generation of mouse poison. It works better but coons love it much better than voles!

What did you do in the garden today?

Luckily, coons only destroyed my corn patch so far, nothing else in the garden yet. Between mouse traps and mouse poison, I have mice under control. Vole is a completely different story! They don't like anything other than my garden plants! :barnie I had great help from neighbor's outdoor cats...

What did you do in the garden today?

Speak about voles, I have a problem with the vole/mouse poison that attract raccoons! At least I think it's raccoons, because they opened the mouse poison stations that require a key to open, ate bait, and tossed the stations up to 20ft away everyday! Anybody else has the same problem? How to...

    Worried about hen

When did you deworm last time? If you didn't deworm them recently, I would try deworming first. Does she has water belly? does she breath normal? Before you try antibiotics, make sure the she doesn't crop issue first.

What did you do in the garden today?

I had sweet corn one year to fill a 4x8 raised bed. I was so excited when it would be ready in a couple days. Oh well, when I went to harvest them on the morning, I only found that raccoons had a party the night before and ate every single one of them and left a big mess behind. The raccoons...

    sour crop??

No, I melt the gel in little less than 1ml water and use 1ml syringe to feed her. Most people do give their chicken the whole pill though.

Azure is the best place that you can get cheap high quality organic grains. Their chicken feed also have very reasonable prices.

Only 1 of 4 hens laying (2 years old)

I currently feed my hens fermented S&P grower mash too, but give them new country organics gamebird crumbles as free-choice dry feed. They mostly eat S&P grower, which is only 17% protein, so a small amount 26% protein gamebird crumbles on top of it makes it just right. I have some hens not...
