No on the turkeys. Coyotes, and in my unlucky experience, bobcats, will both kill turkeys. I had a bobcat kill my full grown tom turkey. The only way I knew is because I had it on video (of the bobcat coming back to retrieve the turkey).
I did not have any luck with the DE. I went so far as to taking DE internally for a while, but I did not see a change. I agree that my birds REALLY like to dust in the ash left over from bonfires. There must be something in there that smothers the mites and parasites. Personally, I would not...
Bobcat is my guess. I had a terrible issue with one last year. Killed my adult tom turkey and hand-raised peahen that I had for years. Got him on video.
I shipped yesterday, and I have a pending paypal transaction for the next shipment in 1-2 weeks. If you want the next shipment after that, you can paypal me the $42 to [email protected] and that will guarantee you the next shipment.
Thanks for the interest!
You know I never did get the bobcat. It either moved on or someone else got it, as I know it was attacking at least one other person's livestock. Definitely not normal behavior for a bobcat. At any rate, all birds are locked up now at night and when I'm not home.
Wow! What is it with the bobcats here in SW Florida??? The bobcat is definitely in the area. I set the turkey decoy up Thursday night on top of the 6 ft. privacy fence that borders the woods. At about 2 a.m., my peacocks woke me up with their honking, so I ran out there with the flashlight...
Yes it has, in fact it was back yesterday, this time during the DAY! I heard a huge commotion and by the time I got out there all I found was an injured peahen, and it was out of sight. So for now on, my birds will stay locked up permanently until I can get rid of this problem animal. Injured...
Agreed. It's not a matter of if, but when, he'll come back to this part of his territory. I have my backyard under surveillance. It left hungry last time, so maybe that's a good thing. I might never have the chance to shoot it.
I noticed other chickens within earshot have gone quiet around here...used to hear roosters in the morning and lately it's been quiet. I am guessing it is making its rounds. I have all birds locked up, even during the day, and at night I have the backyard under surveillance with security...
Wow, thanks for sharing. I am beginning to think that it has moved on, as it hasn't been around for 4 nights now. I have all my birds penned, even during the day when I'm not home, as I have a feeling it will strike when I let my guard down again. What a shame, I've been free-ranging for 9...
This is from Tuesday night, along with local coverage of the news that picked up the story:

I'm so glad you understand, and you thanks for doing the research on electric fences in my locale. I had a friend who is a hog hunter here last night, he sat on the roof with a night scope and the whole set up, but unfortunately "Bobby da cat" decided to not show up. 2nd night in a row...
