Those are hens :) I had 2 Australorps! My last 5 year old Australorp hen recently passed away due to old age. She laid eggs up until a month or so before she passed. She developed sour crop and it didn't respond to anything. She peacefully fell asleep. Enjoy your beautiful hens!
I agree that frostbite was not the problem. You will definitely know very quickly as it does spread like wildfire as a backyard chicken enthusiast in Maine had chickens dying from it left and right..some 12. Then they had to kill all the rest of his 70 birds. I am scared to death as I have a pet...
My sweet little girl, Little Quack, was a Crested white duck who had the best personality. She would try to eat water in the bath tub, she would converse with me quacking when she needed food/water/wanted to mate, and would try to jump out of her cage excitedly when she saw me. I just adored...
So sorry to hear this and sending positive thoughts!! I also had to say goodbye to my sweet little Quack who I found dead. She had been suffering with egg laying issues for over 2 years. It was devistating. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time !!
I had an Ameraucana rooster for 3 years and he was only aggressive towards me not my kids or my husband, but my kids are 15 years and older. I got rid of him due to me finding out that I am not supposed to have roosters. The farm I gave him to, he cowered quickly to another young, but...
Also, they all crow separately and together at times. But, Luna, our 3 year old rooster is definitely in charge and then the other 2 have fought to establish who is next. Last year, it was one cockerel who was 2nd in charge and now it's the other one who is now a rooster. The 3rd in charge just...
I agree with what everyone has said. We had 3 out of 5 turn out to be cockerels this past spring. We already had 4 other roosters. So, we had to choose who to get rid of and who to keep. I would have chosen the old rooster as he is a good protector of the flock and my sweet rooster who takes...
My older rooster puts those cockerels in their place especially when they try to terrorize his hens. So, I would bet your rooster will too eventually. I had 2 cockerels that are now roosters and they all find their place in the peeking order. The cockerel who was in charge last year below the...
My friend bought 2 ducks from Tractor supply and by the night both were dead. She said the one couldn't close it's eyes. Looking at the picture my friend sent, it looked like the one duck had sticky eyes and I suspect some sort of respiratory infection. I told her to call Tractor Supply to see...
I agree, your poor chicken doesn't look good especially her comb looks purple which indicates oxygen issues. So sorry! It is either water building up from a heart issue, organ failure or eggs from internal laying. If you can get her to a vet they could also tell you. We had tests done where my...
I agree, she may be sick as I've had 3 ducks and they only pant when stressed or sick. Hope she will be okay. Do you have a vet that sees birds near by?
I have a buff orpington that will be 4 in March and a black austrolorp that will also be 4 March. Both continue to lay and have laid throughout this snowy and cold winter. Our other 4 original chickens, rest in peace. My duck, who was a crested indian runner lived to be 5 and that's the...
Doesn't look good, but I am not an avian vet. We have had to sew up the tail of a chicken by with the oil gland exposed and on the head of chicken with 7 stitches, but nothing with that large of an area. The fact that she is eating and drinking and also laid an egg is good. I would keep it clean...
Yes, I have the almost full grown one pictured first and the 3 little ones. I have the white Leghorn mixed with the Buff Orpington and amauecana who went to chicken snow ball and 2 others that will eventually look like the full grown one rooster who is a buff orpington and amauecana mix. I am...
We live in Granger, Indiana. Not sure of that is too far for you to travel. We could possibly meet you in Ohio, but that will also be a 4 hour trip each way for us. Rain is almost a year and is pictured first. He can be fiesty and try to peck you, but he is good at defending his hen. He is...
I have 3 close to 3 month old roosters that are mixes of a white leg horn and/or buff orpington with an ameraucana rooster. Plus, almost a year old mix rooster which is also a mix of a buff orpington and ameraucana rooster. I can include pictures if interested. They have all been handled since...
