Thanks. Yes that’s my plan. To get 2 roosters out of 8 chicks is a good score. I’ll keep both until I know for sure which one I want or until they cause trouble together.
I read about frizzles/silkiest and cold too late. It can be below zero here but not often or long
Good point. Hadn’t thought that far ahead but who knows.
The mille Fleur is definitely more assertive and independent. Which might be a good trait for a rooster.
Maybe one or both of the 2 black silkies will be roos. But I doubt it. 9 weeks and there’s no comb or wattles at all.
I bought some 1 day old chicks a few months ago to cater to my broody hen.
Total of 8. All bantams. 3 mile Fleur d’Uccle, 3 red frizzle Cochin and 2 black silkies.
Of the 8 Im sure of 2 being roosters. One mills Fleur and one frizzle Cochin.
Which rooster of the 2 would you keep? And why?

That was my thought too. They are exposed anyway. They are in the run with food in the morning for about half an hour because daylight hits so early and I go there at 6.30. But I don’t think they eat. They’re just upset they are locked up and cackling at the door. 🙂
My chickens free range during the day. I also feed them regular layer feed as well as fermented feed. They prefer the fermented feed.
I read recently that wild birds should not be able to get to the chicken feed because they can transmit problems like lice/mites.
How do you prevent birds from...
I have a hen sitting on my own eggs (4) but it’s already day 22 and I have a hunch they are not going to hatch. (It’s super hot here)
I have a batch of 7 2 day old chicks that I want to sneak under her but I read different advice. Some say offer it to her others say do it at night.
What’s...
Thanks. I have no experience with this but have put her in an elevated cool dog kennel inside for 48 hours. She’s fine for a bit after that but then she goes back to being broody in about 10 days. If this doesn’t work it’s no big deal.
Hope my heading even makes sense. This is my first time with a broody hen.
I have a broody hen ( Easter egger) and put 3 fertilized eggs from my neighbor under her.
She’s sitting in one of my nesting boxes and the others leave her alone. All of these hens were hatched last December so they’re...
Chicken sits on his hocks for a week now.
She doesn’t deteriorate. I started giving her rooster booster vitamin B since 2 days ago.
First I thought it was Mareks but she doesn’t deteriorate.
Picture of het feaces too. No more eggs
Any suggestions?
Sorry. Just saw this reply.
I think I will start a new post.
She’s not egg bound because she’s laying eggs. She eats drinks and seems for the rest healthy. I have her outside in a dog run.
But she’s for sure lame. At one side I believe because she uses her wings to move around
It was in the middle of the driveway with no cover. It seems a weird spot. She also seems to squeeze with her back part. But I’ve never seen an egg bound hen before so idk. She doesn’t seem sick apart from not moving and not eating.
I’ve not seen bullying but it’s possible.
I tried to attach a video but it didn’t let me.
I have a Welsummer hen that hatched December 12. It’s part of a group of 10 and some are laying just a few weeks but I’m not sure if this one has laid an egg at all.
Last night she didn’t come in the coop but sat on the ground. I could easily...
I want a rooster for my girls.
I have found a liege fighter (Luikse vechter) which is from my home country so I’m a bit biased.
The other is a game fowl rooster.
Both are colorful and gorgeous.
Any pros and cons you could share?
Below is my actual chicken coop. It’s designed after the picture under it from my pet chicken.
The run extends under the coop and the chickens like to go there.
My question is. What is the best way to clean it there? There’s hardware cloth around it but I have access from the coop as well as a...
