thank you for the advice. How much time are we talking by “limited time” to free range? I would love to do a space this large for them. However we live in the city with a relatively small backyard space. Going extra large like this would take up a giant section of our yard... then again they're...
We have 5 backyard chickens in south Texas. They have an eglu coop & run (with extensions for adequate space). As first time chicken owners were coming across 2 problems that we haven’t been able to google ourselves out of and could use some help. We let them free range the yard daily (usually...
Thank you for elaborating. We certainly want our flock to be in a healthy environment. They are allowed to roam the full yard in the evenings but want them comfortable during the day when we’re away too.
ill take a look into this. Do you have any articles you’d recommend on learning more about...
@aart could I just do that with the run we have now and leave it stationary instead of moving it? If so what is a good option to keep in the bottom so it’s sanitary - if we don’t do anything it’ll get pretty gross won’t it?
@aart as far as the goal - optimally we would like to be able to preserve the grass which is why we opted for the tractor option. However our grass is pretty sad at the moment already which doesn’t help .
I’m trying to figure out if we move it every 2-3 days will that be often enough or will...
9x4. Yeah unfortunately our grass took a beating this summer. It was in much better condition earlier this year but we had a hot dry summer followed by a lot of rain in the last few weeks. so you believe moving even every couple of days would basically leave our yard trashed wherever we put...
We have 5 Orpingtons in an eglu coop with run. We got the option with wheels to make it a tractor style thinking that if we moved it that our grass could survive... with a 1x/week move our grass is really struggling not to mention I don’t want their living conditions to be poor. I could use some...
Our baby chicks are 4 weeks old today. We went ahead and staged their coop so we could begin bringing them outdoors for a little while each day to get them used to being outside. When we brought them out today from the brooder (high 90’s) they immediately began to show signs of heat distress...
Thank you for this advice. I didn’t realize that it’s likely we would be able to tell the gender from their appearance before they begin to crow. That’s the main reason we were considering keeping them indoors for an extended time. This makes me feel a lot better about putting them in their coop...
hi! I’m a first time chicken owner living in a neighborhood with close neighbors. After a lot of research we ordered some buff Orpington ladies from cackle hatchery for their gentle and quiet nature as pets/egg layers. They’re about 2 weeks old at this point. I’m looking for some advice on 2...
