I’ve had an automatic door for years and never had a problem. The door is plastic and goes down very slow. There is no way the a chicken could get caught. Mine locks also, which is important, raccoons could possibly lift the door. I couldn’t have chickens if I didn’t have it. I never have...
The first two chicks hatched perfectly but
Last three quail that had trouble hatching. After three days of trying to get out of shells I carefully helped. Their toes are all drawn up and one has a curved neck. I think it’s from remaining in the shells so long. Anything I can do?
Don’t know what is wrong with my rooster’s comb. I cleaned it and put Neosporin on it. The comb is hard and bloody in spots. Only rooster so no fighting. We did have some cold temps this winter but hens combs are fine.
It was definitely blood but seemed to be in a clear membrane. Not sure which hen it’s from but they are from about seven months to two and a half years. I’ll recheck tomorrow and I think it’s good idea to worm. Thanks!
I noticed tonight that one of my hens has poop all over her butt. She is eating well and active but her butt is a mess! I didn’t want to catch her tonight and soak and clean her cause its cold outside. Thought I bring her in early tomorrow morning and soak her and clean it up. If it is...
I envy you with such an early house, love the shakes.
You did a wonderful job on the coop, love the exterior touches. My only question is possible snow load on roof of nesting box, might you need two supporting legs?
These are the boxed I use. I really like then cause I can easily take the down to wash. The black bar in front lifts up to block part of the opening if you want to block use at night. I bought them from my local farm store for $18.95.
I have three nesting boxes for ten hens that are five months old. The hens have been in the coop since they were ten weeks. Never did I see one check out the boxes. They all have fake eggs in them but all but four lay their eggs in the corner of the coop. Four do now get in the boxes to lay.
I have checked her for for everything I know, this isn’t my first rodeo.
I have put electrolytes in her water and gave her some fermented feed to try.
I guess time will tell, I’m keeping a close watch on her. 🤞🏻🙏🏻
Thanks!
My flock of 12 is only five months old, no illnesse.
Purina layer pellets
1/4 watermelon and a hand full of meal worms daily
Just put her in cage so haven’t seen poop, I’ll watch for it.
Saw her drink some water but haven’t seen her eat. ( doesn’t mean she haven’t )
Havent been treated for worms...
