    Turkey Addition Help and Request

My turkeys live in an aviary I made from a large broken greenhouse. They have a small shed inside and some various other repurposed furnishings. I removed the shed door (actually it broke and that’s why the turkeys got it) so it’s like 4/5ths covered from the elements with only half the front...

    My interesting inter-species flock

The Turks sleep on the shed in all but extreme weather, but there’s a tree above them, and there’s creeper growing over the aviary wire above, so they don’t feel the elements as much. If it’s snowing like crazy they sleep inside but come out the second it eases up, most rain they just ignore...

    My interesting inter-species flock

Little Relish is far smaller than the others, but is growing feathers and seems to be doing ok. They all show a lot of chicken behaviors, or what I call chicken behaviors. My turkeys never perch, they prefer to sit, lay, sleep on top of their shed. I have some repurposed junk for them to perch...

Anyone else have a dog with Cushing’s?

Once he became ill, I was glad he was never able to mate. There’s no way to know the truth about breeding because people have hung papers since breed groups began, but in his pedigree, I was able to look up many of the breeders and kennels and see photos of the dogs on their sites, and I could...

Anyone else have a dog with Cushing’s?

Although we didn’t realize it at the time, he was showing signs of cushings as early as 1.5-2 years old. His behavioral changes were written off as him being intact and growing more mature, when he was unable to complete mating activities, the vet said it’s because he’s a frenchy. Even though he...

Anyone else have a dog with Cushing’s?

They could see his adrenals in the ultrasound and didn’t see a tumor, so they feel that it’s pituitary.

Anyone else have a dog with Cushing’s?

I was wondering if anyone else has a cushings dog, and if anyone who does might want to join a thread discussing our common experiences. I have a 5 year old French bulldog that they have finally diagnosed with cushings. He got a false negative on the first test, then they found nothing from the...

    My interesting inter-species flock

I’ve been super busy, so sorry, but I’ve got some pics now. There are 3 chicks, 2 are fine, one is blind. It hatched with cloudy eyes and I figured it wouldn’t make it and I didn’t intervene, except to spread baby crumbles all over the large bin they’re using as a group nest box, with blind...

    My interesting inter-species flock

I wonder if the chickens will teach the chicks to forage like they do. The turkeys don’t turn the chips or dig, they just pick things up they see on top. The head chicken mom is showing the chicks how to dig and she turns the chips and dirt and exposes bugs for them.

    My interesting inter-species flock

I was worried for nothing, the incubator babies were constantly almost dying, but the new mom raised babies are eating bugs, I made them a waterer with a cup drinker, but the moms took them out and taught them to use the nipples, they climb up on the cinder blocks to reach the nipples, I’m so...

    My interesting inter-species flock

I was out in the aviary throwing down baby food because they’re running everywhere, and there’s another egg hatching! The chickens are on it while the turkeys are foraging with the 2 babies

    My interesting inter-species flock

I guess maybe 2 years ago I started building an aviary out of a broken greenhouse. I had previously had quail but we had a bad flood and some new predators followed the creek into our neighborhood when the river went crazy, and I lost almost all of the quail. Anyway, I had hatched midget white...

What Color Are My Coturnix Quail?

The white looks manchurian (pearl) fee. The pale ones at the end are egyptian fee (pharoah+roux+fee). The top ones look like pansy.

    Golden Manchurian vs Italian

Autumn amber is roux and Italian. Manchurian is 2 copies of Italian, but Italian is incompletely dominant, so you get a variety of patterns falling under the terms italian and manchurian. Here’s my guess on the colors/patterns: 1. Normal Italian leaning towards manchurian. 2. I can’t tell if...

    Is this pansy fee?

I’ve been out of the quail loop for a bit, but I believe Italian and pansy are 2 distinct, different genes, however, since Italian is incompletely dominant, it can bleed out over several generations, affecting the patterns of the various offspring. So if you crossed a pansy to a manchurian...

Would a dyed silkie attract predators?

I saw a juvenile hawk dive bomb a white plastic bag stuck in the brush on the on the edge of the woods, young birds of prey try to catch anything that moves, regardless of color, so I don’t think being white is any safer than being rainbow, but I would stay away from any colors that could look...

Coturnix Quail mom successfully hatches chicks...now what!?!

It’s very common for certain birds to like chicks and certain ones not to. It seems more common that the adults will either attack the chicks, or will accidentally trample them, but some make wonderful parents, and I’ve had several birds that eagerly accepted chicks. The funny thing is, when my...
