Australorp for sale - 40 miles north of Seattle

Australorp for sale. She just turned 2 years old, daily layer of beautiful brown eggs, and she's very healthy and beautiful. She's simply too loud for our backyard chicken coop. She has an awful shrieking voice and has had it her whole life. She would do best on a farm or somewhere with more...

Help me get rid of my nightly visitors!!!!!

Do you have a picture of your current coop/run setup? Rats can fit into holes the size of a quarter. We have 1/2" hardware cloth around our whole run and we skirted it out on the ground a couple of feet so they can't dig under, either

What Age to Prepare Nest Boxes?

Now would be a great time! They can start exploring and "practicing". Super cute to watch.

    Shrieking Australorp

Thanks! The run not including the coop is 14ft x 4ft. They have a dust bath area, mirrors, swings, and perched up high. They also get to go outside in the yard. She was high strung even as a baby, so I wonder if that's just how she is.

    Shrieking Australorp

Bummer, hahaha. We do give them treats when we move them out into the yard, so it's possible that's just her way of communicating. The fact that she does it all the time now is a bummer.

    Shrieking Australorp

Yes, but slightly less often as I think she's busier with bugs and such.

    Shrieking Australorp

Hi all! I need help. We have six total chickens including two Australorps and one has been "shrieking" for about 8 weeks now. She is 22 weeks old and started laying last week. We chose Australorps as they are supposedly one of the quieter breeds. Her sister is super quiet. She started this...

    Limping chicken

How is your chicken? I have a chicken limping today 😞 I don't want to separate her unless I have to, but I'm worried about the other 5 girls picking on her.

I highly recommend this website for information on a lot of breeds: https://www.thehappychickencoop.com/chicken-breeds/ There is some good information on what breeds would be good for children, etc. Personally, my two barred rocks are the sweetest out of the three breeds that we have.

    8 week old BLRW

No expert on BLRW, but the redness of the comb and wattles makes it look like a boy to me.

    Barred rock chick gender

This doesn't look like any barred rock I've seen :/ mine had barring on their wings, as in multiple bars, by three weeks.

    Pasty Butt??

I have nothing more to add, as everyone's suggestions are great. I'll just say that I had one chick who had pasty butt for almost two weeks. She's now my lap chicken as I had to handle her the most out of all the other chickens. We've been through a lot together :)

    Yellow thing in chicks mouth?

Could it be its egg tooth?

    5 week old chicks inactive

How are they doing now? Were they already integrated with the 10 week old chickens in the coop, or was this their first time? Have they been acclimated to those temperatures for some time now?

6 weeks into chicken ownership - Why didnt i do this long ago

I'm with you! Ours are almost 7 weeks old now... who knew they were so funny with such personalities?!?! We've started to forego our nightly tv show to pull up chairs in the backyard to just watch chickens. Ugh, they're the best. I'm bummed we can only have a max. of 6.
