How do you store eggs on countertop?

Our girls recently started laying so we will be getting 6 eggs a day now. How are people storing their eggs on the countertop to make sure that you use the oldest eggs first? I originally wanted a cute chicken wire basket but digging to the bottom to get the oldest eggs isn't practical... I've...

Why aren't my hens laying? Advise needed!

Hey everyone, For the life of me I can't figure out why my 6 hens haven't started laying yet. 2 are a little younger than the other four, but still no eggs. My only thought is that they are still too young (and unfortunately I do not know their exact age) but I am surprised to not even see the...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

Thanks, Jetdog :) We bring the food in every night so we don't lose any to critters, so if bad weather is coming I could definately put them under the coop! Now if I can just figure out how a couple of the girls are escaping........

post your chicken coop pictures here!

Here's mine. Coop was about $200. Run was $50. Chickens were $86 and an hour away (yikes). Let's just say this was my anniversary present.

Ideas for making this in to a chicken Run?

Thank for your ideas! I will try and look at some examples of a tent like set up with wire. I do really want to make sure it's not ghetto looking since it will be right next to my neighbors and we just moved here, and everyone has very nice yards... If anyone has any decent looking set ups, I...

Ideas for making this in to a chicken Run?

Hey everyone, Looking for any input on making this a chicken run? Normally I would think "SCORE!" but there are some bummer factors, like the chain link fence being that standard 4 foot-ish height, and that using this little fenced in area would mean my girls would be right along two of my...

Hi Spazzy, I still have had no luck. I've tried facebook groups, craigslist, feed stores, etc. I'm going out of my mind trying to get some girls!! The closest farm to get some pullets is almost 2 hours away! Any ideas?

Help! We are trying to find a dog who can live with chickens but doesn't eat ALOT.

Same here. I have a pit mix and a cocker spaniel too. Both protect my chickens from everything (including birds of prey), haven't lost one yet while they have been on duty. But if the dogs are locked up and we aren't home, we have lost a couple to fox passing through. It's all about training...

Hi Finnfur, Thank you for the info. I'm not sure what to do about the fencing. Do you guys have a lot of bird of prey out here? it is a treed area and so not very open to a bird's eye view, so not sure if I could just make the fence taller and go with that. I have had RIR, Stars, Wyandottes...

Just moved to Portsmouth from Colorado - Help Needed

Hey Everyone, My husband and I are military and just moved to Portsmouth from Colorado. I have had chickens all my life and everywhere I've lived, and so of course am anxious to get some here since I have my landlords blessing (and the city allows it). Problem is I can't find any pullets or...

    Hen segregating herself from flock?

Thanks haunted! I did end up purchasing safeguard and have them each a pea size amount mixed with yogurt and berries just now. I hope this gets them laying, getting rid of their pasty butts, and cures all! I did also purchase DE to use. Feels good to hopefully get my girls back on track! Thanks...

    Question about deworming my Hens

I am getting stuck on the dewormer for my 3 chickens - I have never wormed them before and I think they need it, due to not laying and some other weird behaviors. I have a couple left over boxes of Equine Dewormer Ivermectin 1.87% (anthelmintic and boticide). Can I use a "pea size" amount of...
