Those fairy wrens are certainly splendid!
Why would Limpy Chick not care about an interloper? Does she consider it more to be GB's territory, maybe?
And where IS GB?
The OP has not been on BYC since Dec 2020. Post a thread of your own, with pictures, and people will happily tell you if you have pullets or cockerels! :D
I would welcome BYMs for health reasons (my EEs have had the longest lifespans so far), but I can't have roosters. For someone like me, they'd either have to be sexed chicks (not easy) or pullets. Being able to get sexed chicks is the only reason I buy from hatcheries.
Emus' eyes seem to be more forward than other prey birds. Are they predators or prey?
Are emus ever banded to get concrete data more easily than having to recognize a bird?
I got pecked in the nose, lip (that swelled up!), and a few times on the teeth, until I wised up. They see the shine of teeth and eyeballs and can't resist. I agree with @BigBlueHen53 and @sourland: I value my eyesight.
I feel your pain. It always seems to happen at once. I had 2 chickens die, a case of flystrike, and now the flock dynamics have changed and given me a bullied hen, all within less than a month. You and I will both pull through! :hugs
Do the brumbies (I looked that up!) compete for food with emus? I know you said the emus eat flowers at this time of year.
Could the super plumage give any kind of evolutionary advantage?
So exciting! I love the breeds you chose.
I added a frizzle Polish to my adult flock of 3, and there were no issues, although I suspect that's because none of the girls think she's really a chicken. . .
