I have a 2 year old speckled sussex with some abnormal symptoms, and wondered if anyone had any experience with water belly.
A few years ago I had a chicken with water belly who passed so every now and then i check my girls abdomens and crops at night. a few nights ago i noticed that one of my...
she is getting better every day! as long as she continues to improve i might put her back into the coop with her sisters, i feel like it might not be mareks, but we have to wait and see
Here’s my big question, is it safe to put her back in with her sisters? if her balance starts recovering i might consider it but i was wondering if anyone thought this might put them at risk. all my other chickens are vaccinated but i wouldn’t want to hyper expose them
i wormed her with safeguard goat dewormer (fenbendazole). a reproductive infection could be likely, she hasn’t laid an egg this whole time, but in the past when i’ve had hens with infections i’ve never seen some of the other symptoms like balance loss. being a tractor supply chicken however i...
she is pooping and eating normally, no extra symptoms other than a droopy comb. I would suspect water belly but it seems very strange to me that she would start to get better and worse and than better again you know? i’ve had a chicken die from water belly before and it was a pretty linear...
I have an almost three year old light brown leghorn with off and on infections that I’m having trouble getting to the root of.
First: about three weeks ago i pulled aside this chicken because she seemed fluffed up, i checked and found that she had vent gleet, so i treated her with micanzole...
not activates, just swelling, i’ve had a hen with ascities and this feels very different. I was thinking that she might have peritonitis and is internally laying, causing an infection
I have an almost 3 year old RIR with a reoccurring infection. Previously she had laid an egg internally and had an infection but after some antibiotics she recovered very well. Now it seems the infection has returned. she is disinterested in food, has a slow crop, has not pooped, but i can...
Well, she has yet to pass. Looking and walking better, I think the antibiotics made a big difference. She has much more energy and is pretty alert. The only worrying thing is that she is not eating. Her crop, slowly but surely is emptying but she isn’t really replacing the contents of it...
ok PHEW. i just got back from petsmart, walmart and tractor supply did not have amoxicillin. petsmart has E. M Erythromycin for fish. I know that this is not the preferred antibiotic, but it is an antibiotic that can be used on chickens, so a win is a win. Today she is looking pretty normal...
Day 2 update,
she seems about the same, crop has not emptied, comb still droopy, abdomen pretty swollen. Still very alert and eating and drinking fine. Ive been giving her calcium citrate tablets crushed in her water, one today and one yesterday. only real difference is that her stools have...
thanks! After I finish my shift i’ll run over to CVS and pick up the tablets, I just checked and it looks like they have them. I can order the antibiotics but i’m really unsure about if she’ll survive long enough for them to even be delivered. i think the move right now is to monitor her...
1) Not really sure when she last laid an egg, i’m in MA and the weather has been blistering lately so most of my chickens haven’t been laying. I’ve also been reducing the amount of time spent in the coop so that they can keep the heat inside.
2) if it is a “glitch” it’s probably most likely...
I have an 3 year old Rhode Island Red with some confusing issues, but she is undoubtedly sick. She is usually very energetic and mobile but today she is slow and puffed up, with a droopy comb. her crop feels like it’s full of water with a few solids, which made my think either sour crop, or...
update!!!!
checked on her yesterday and her crop had emptied later in the day. gave her some food as an experiment and there was still some food in her crop this morning. maybe the changing seasons is affected when her crop empties?
1. as far as i can she she is eating and drinking and very alert, the only reason i found the impaction is because she tried to sneak through my feet and out the coop door and i had to pick her up to stop her from escaping
2. she has never been wormed, and is only about 8-9 months old
3. no...
picked up one of my girls this morning and noticed her crop was still full and hadn’t emptied. my working plan is to massage and start the worming process before it becomes a sour crop.
when feeling the crop it really did not feel like fibrous material but instead grain, which makes me...
