    The Legbar Thread!

Remember I hatched 6 eggs, a white pair and a cream trio? I've lost them all but the white cock and a cream hen. They were growing so well, I'm not sure what happened... I was expecting them to start laying any day and all of a sudden one would seem to go a little listless, so I would deworm and...

I vote both boys. My pullets had no combs or wattles at that age.

    The Legbar Thread!

My two cockerels are 14 weeks, 1 white and 1 cream. They tried to sort out their dominance in the big coop yesterday, but the peepers keep them from really communicating much of a threat. Just kind of postured at each other and that was that. I'll keep an eye on them as they grow. As far as...

    The Legbar Thread!

It might have been asked before and then lost. How tolerant of other cockerels/roosters are Cream Legbars? Temporarily I've placed my white pair with my cream trio and a couple of bantam cochin hens.(2 cockerels and 5 hens/pullets) All the legbars are under 20 weeks and the bantam cochins...

Awesome! The names are hysterical! Just be sure to check those legbands daily or every other day because the chicks will grow fast and you don't want to overlook them. :)

That's what I assumed was the case. Thank you for solidifying it. :)

I like the zips because you can do an array of color and they are easy to remove and replace as the chick grows. I really look forward to how your three guys grow out(I know you are too!). I am so excited for you! And you got packing peanuts(fingers crossed for Marans HENS!) :D

Wow, you did get quite the assortment of Cream legbar cockerels! If you go and buy a color assortment of zipties. You should keep the same color zip tie on each chick so we all can watch their progress and be able to keep notes on them. The ties are easily cut off and replaced as they grow. I...

    The Legbar Thread!

So do UK breeders breed one flock grow out all the individuals and then simply pick the rooster with the best comb and the hen with the best crest? It just seems interesting that you would breed one flock and then select from both ends of the spectrum for your "ideal" specimens. Maybe that is...

I wonder if there has been any headway made on that. Can crest size even be bred to the point it's sexlinked? I imagine it will end up being like some other exhibition lines out there. Where you have a line you breed specifically for "correct" females and a seperate line you breed for "correct"...

    The Legbar Thread!

Can crested roosters have straight combs? My Cream rooster has quite the crest, but also has a serious floppy comb. While my white roo has much less of a crest and a fairly straight comb. I've noticed that many roosters that have a straight comb aren't crested or crested very little. Just...

Okay. Awesome. Mine hatched May 16(I've memorized it because I keep calculating their age. LOL!). I'm sure they think I'm planning on eating them, because I sit outside their pen with treats anxiously awaiting "the special day".

    The Legbar Thread!

What seems to be the average time for legbars to start laying? I've seen some post that their flock began laying at 14.5 weeks and some say their flock didn't start for a year. What does the consensus say?

I have two larger near identical pullets and one that it smaller, more petite but has a larger crest. The size difference is pretty significant. All are from the same hatch and have the same treatment. I think it's just part of the genetic diversity.

He's a boy. Although, you might need to hang onto him for a while and see what his comb does. A lot of people are wanting straight, if not only smaller combs on the legbars. This cockerel might fit both bills. :)

The whites I hatched out were different shades of yellow until they feathered out white. Keep us posted on how these grow out. They are super cute.

    The Legbar Thread!

Snapped a few pictures today. These are legbars hatched from madamwolf's eggs May 16, 2012. They are growing fast. :) The white pair. Pictures aren't the best, the birds were already put up for the night as there is a storm blowing through and as you can tell from the Cream Legbars it is HOT.
