    The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello!! No, I never had any health issues with my girls when I had them. One had pasty butt when she was a baby chick but we got that fixed up. The only thing I really dealt with was the heat in summer. Summer was hard on them, but I kept them as cool as I could with sunshades, frozen treats...

    The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello all! I’m not sure I am posting this in the right place on this thread, but I’m wondering if my fellow Tennesseans can help me. Hubby and I retired and moved to Tennessee a little over a year. I used to have backyard chickens when I lived out west in the desert, just six girls, and I had...

OMG prices just keep going UPPPPPPP!

That’s one long thread!! lol I will have to read it later. Unfortunately the roof is built so it is what it is now. There is wiggle room with adding more ventilation near the top of the coop in the peaked sides, the lower sides all have hardware cloth along the top connecting the walls, under...

Thank you! I love how it's turning out and can't wait to see it completed with all the trim and latches and door...which also has a window in in...etc. I am suuuuuuper claustrophobic so when I designed it I knew it had to be a walk in, with lots and lots of windows. Plus it had to be bright...

OMG prices just keep going UPPPPPPP!

We live in the High Desert of California. Very hot summers, and cold brisk 20-30 degree winters. Not much rain or snow tho we can get it. We put a metal roof on our coop and hubby is thinking of insulating the underside to help eliminate some of the driving heat in summer. Good idea, bad idea...

OMG prices just keep going UPPPPPPP!

Oh man, I feel ya!!! We started our coop around September and the prices just keep skyrocketing. Every time we buy more lumber, the cost of the coop goes up and up. I told my hubby we should have just bought EVERYTHING we needed back then, but he seems to love going to Lowes and/or Home Depot on...

Yeah, most require a min of 6. That’s way more doable than a minimum of 25 that some require. 🙄 I have six breeds picked out so it’s doable if needs be. I currently just got hit with Covid tho so I suppose I shouldn’t make any chicken decisions until I live through that. 🤪

This is me, I have no clue about chicken diseases or how to recognize if I’m getting crappy chickens from crappy people. 😬

Ugh. I’ve not seen any of the bad breeder threads yet. I really, really don’t want to get unhealthy birds. 🙈

I’ll look into them again. One place I looked at had crazy high prices. Like $40 for a day old pullet.

Coop is being built as we speak. Should be done well in advance. I like the idea of using it as the brooder!!!! I actually bought a brooder from MPC that I was going to use in the house but I think I’ll maybe do that the first week to make sure all is well, and then just move the whole brooder...

Hahahaha!! Thank you!! This is perfection! McMurry it is! 😂 I was looking at Cackle (I believe) and seeing everyone commenting on how they sent them extra chicks and how awesome that is. Well it’s awesome if you have the space for those chicks!!! I understand why they do it and it’s great if...
