Help diagnosing hen who can’t walk

I don’t know when she last laid because I have 13 laying hens in one coop/run. I also don’t know about the droppings for the same reason. I never have dewormed any of my flock. I’ve had mites in the past in the coop but no evidence of any now. I just went out to check on her and she’s dead.

Help diagnosing hen who can’t walk

I have a beautiful Dominique laying hen. I don’t know how old she is because I got her as a laying hen from Craigslist. I’ve had her for over 2 years. About 2 weeks ago I noticed she started limping. She continued to limp but apparently it has gotten worse because starting yesterday she just...

Topic of the Week - Sexing Chicks

Interesting thing happened to me yesterday- and this is the topic for it— The chicks (barnyard mix) that our broody hatched are 2 1/2 weeks old now, and even though they all look different, there are 2 with bigger combs than the rest of the hatch mates. Anyway my friend was over and we were...

Topic of the Week - Sexing Chicks

Nice to know! I just hatched two Belgian D’uccle chicks. They’re close to 2 weeks old now. If I post a pic do you think you could tell me their sex?

    “Chicken Hatching Experiment”

They weren't all laid on the same day but they were collected and put under the broody all at once. We had six hatch today!!!!!! There are 3 more eggs that could be viable, based on when we candled them about four days ago. So who knows, we might get a few more tomorrow. So far she seems like...

    Selling eggs?

Hi all. I’m a newbie chicken keeper. I got chicks in October and they’re all laying now, I’m getting between 8 and 11 eggs a day so it’s more than we can eat. Since the feed and coop etc is so expensive, I’ve been thinking about selling some eggs. My plan was to have my family members in the...

Black spots on Comb and Wattles but no scabs

I know this is an old thread but I have a hen whose comb and wattles look very similar! I’m trying to figure out what to do. What happened with this bird?

Comb and wattles have black on them?

One of my hens, I just noticed, has like swirly black on her comb and wattles. Is it just natural coloring and I didn’t notice before? I’m very new at this. I got her and her flock mates as chicks in October. They are all laying now. I got them from a hatchery. I believe she’s a Sapphire Gem...

    “Chicken Hatching Experiment”

Yes, I did mark them and I was checking to make sure there were no new ones when I found the broken one. How many eggs do you have under your broody?

    “Chicken Hatching Experiment”

Your setup looks awesome. Our broody is also a young Buff Orpington. If I could somehow put up a divider to separate her I totally would, but I’ve wracked my brain and there’s no way to separate her without moving her and the nest; and I guess I’m too afraid to do that. How many chicks did you...

    “Chicken Hatching Experiment”

Ok. Thanks for the info. I was originally planning on moving her when I got the fertile eggs, into a dog crate on the floor of the coop so that she can be separated a little, but then I got scared about trying to move her and whether she would abandon the eggs and go back to the nesting box that...
