Hi Folks,
All great here. We finally got Betty to stop making the awful noise by moving things around in the stable they sleep in. I think it disturbed her pattern of behaviour. She can still shout but it’s occasional now not constant. I think it’s still on YouTube ‘This is Betty’ Check it out...
Try a 'grandpa' feeder. They're quite expensive and you go through a few days of worry whilst you train them and they work out how to use it but we've never looked back! It's cured our rat problem completely and our girls love it. We have ducks but they're made for chickens. An absolute dream...
Yay!!! Think we've sorted it! As it would be quite difficult to bring Betty inside as suggested, we went down the route of altering her routine to jolt her out of the habit. We totally changed around their bedroom arrangements and added another duck house to the stable where they sleep. It's...
Thank you all sooo much for your help and advice! We'll certainly give these things a go. I do agree it's probably a learned behaviour she needs helping out of - like dogs, the habit needs breaking. I'll get back to y'all with the outcome. Cheers for now x
No one has 'left' the flock but we do have rats occasionally in the stable where they are. We've had them for a long time though and this only started about 6 months ago. It would make sense for the nighttime quacking but not when they're out and about in the paddock as we never see rats out in...
Thanks. We've checked her, she's eating well and some days she's not so bad which makes us think it's behavioural rather than medical. There is literally no regularity with it. We thought she might be going deaf or blind but she can still hear us and can find her way to the feeder fine. The...
Yes, but what? We really are at a loss. We've even tried giving her a rubber egg to sit on, if it's a lack of laying thing but nothing makes any difference! Believe me, after 4+ hours of it, you're not thinking bless her!
We have 5 ducks. Our oldest girls are Khaki Campbell and have stopped laying as they are over 6 years old. The other 3 lay most days. For the past 6 months, one of our Khakis makes the most awful quacking till she is hourse. She can quack for 4 or 5 hours, morning, noon and even at night. We...
