What would you recommend? I worry about putting chemicals on the walls and ceiling that would hurt the chickens when they inhale it? Bleach has such a strong smell.
no leak other then a ton rain, a lot of humidity and then I did have a stryofoam cooler in there with ice in it with a fan attachment to blow cool air into the coop. The chickens pecked at the cooler and the water did leak out of it but when I felt around on the hemp, etc. it was dry
We just went through major rain with Tropical Debby. My coop is made of wood walls, wood everything, but solid lament floors covered with hemp - tons of humidity here in NC. We have plenty of windows and ventilation. It's a full walk-in, about 5X10. It's green fuzzy mold, covers the walls and...
I've heard about the exams, they make me so nervous. this is only my second year around chickens and I'm still learning. They are the sweetest things ever! I'm scared I'll give them a heart attack, even with giving them a bath....it's not that it grosses me out, it's that I'm worried I will hurt...
I have the same problem with my EE, she hasn't laid for 7 days, has me worried...did yours start back? Mine was laying well, then started laying some cracked eggs and now stopped altogether. she did have problems with laying cracked eggs last year and I supplemented her with calcium, which...
No roosters....she was happy and fine and now she just isn't.....I'm going to bring her inside and try and get her separate and offer her some electrolytes...
At first I thought maybe she was just acting strange because of the elipse, we are east coast, NC so no darkness really happened....but this started just before the peak of it but none of my other chickens are acting weird and she is just sitting on the ground, hard to keep her head up and one...
Has anyone tried releasing the fly predators by spalding? I'm curious to try this year, but worried they will become a nuisance...does anyone know if they hurt your garden? or do they come buzzing around people?
Okay, thank you. I assume if I see others getting sick then it's okay to put her back with the flock? She is bottom of pecking order and I worry if I keep her away too long, it will be really rough to mix her back in....I have a small flock of 6
No drainage or foam around eyes. She doesn't sound like the bird in the video, it's like a rasphy breathing/wheezing type thing and if she gets more nervous it gets worse. The sneezing was fairly often (like every minute) while she was outside in the run but the sneezing part has calmed down...
Hi! one of my chickens is wheezing and sneezing. Walks with mouth open and you can hear her breathing with like a rattle. She acts okay for now but the wheezing has me concerned? I have 5 other chickens but they seem to be okay. I brought her inside, she is in a dog crate right now with food and...
I think the space flock 1 is in, is okay, that is what they used to have before we added Flock 2 and built the new addition....it's Flock 2 that I worry about. They do have the recommended sqft per bird, but I would much rather them have more....that is why we are working on expanding...
Interesting idea about letting flock 2 out first. The only difficult part to that is Flock 2 would have to walk through flock 1 in the middle (indoor run) run to let them out....I don't think flock 2 would do that.....but worth a shot
Note - we do plan to expand the "outdoor run" as well as make it much nicer...but we can't finish until we can get the blue shed out that we temp moved over there for Flock 1 to sleep into while keeping separated.
Also - we introduced them when Flock 2 was about 6-7 weeks old. When they were...
I have two flocks....one flock is about 1.5 years old (flock 1)and the other is 6 months old (flock 2). Each flock has 3 chickens. Flock 1 is two easter eggers and one ISA Brown - very sweet flock. Flock 2 is all blue ameracauna - another sweet but timid flock (rightfully so). Flock 2 has grown...
Sorry, it's been a crazy week so I haven't been able to take measurements....for now we have separated them and are keeping the littles in the new coop until we get back in town from my business trip.....I am kind of letting them out in the day in shifts to run around in the outdoor run. It's a...
Actually, here is a pic of my old setup. The new setup is very similar. The section to the right of the shed/coop is the "indoor run" and the section to the right of the "indoor run" is the "outdoor run. The recent change is that we raised the roof, and replaced the shed/coop with a new coop we...
I can get pictures posted (need to take some since we are working on a rebuild). I don't think the size is the problem. We have a new nice sized coop we are almost done building with full sized windows etc, it's totally useable now and very roomy for 6 hens (we just opened it up to them about a...
