Not sure if this has anything to do with what’s going on with him but he started to sound wheezy so I thought he had a URI, upon inspection he had a nasty wad of straw all the way up in his nostril. So far up I could only see it with a flashlight. Took me 2 hours to work out. Came out with a...
I have him inside in a zippered pet play pen until I figure out what’s going on with him. You can tell he doesn’t feel well so I’m worried everyone will pick on him just because even if that’s not the initial cause.
Yes I’m sure he got better in the house. I found him almost unresponsive and unable to walk a few weeks ago. It was also very cold out, so I warmed him up. After a few days inside he was biting the crap out of me again and eating vivaciously which is his normal personality.
It’s not cold...
At night he goes up with his dad and 4 female ducks including mom. We also have geese and turkeys. Everyone free ranges on 3 acres during the day.
Their feeding station is two 9 foot long PVC pipes.
Hey all!
I have a mama who was sitting on eggs for what seemed like forever. One actually hatched and he’s a couple months old now. We have had no issues with him til now. Normally he is feisty like mom and will bite the crap out of us.
I found him one day in the yard and he looked weird. I...
Wanted to post another update. We got another 2 months out of Laverne. She went back outside and had a normal life for about a month, I brought her inside on her perch when it was extreme cold and she ended up choosing not to go outside anymore. She passed away on Sunday peacefully. Probably her...
looking for ideas on set ups….
I have a barred rock who has had water belly for over a year, in the last few months she hasn’t needed to be drained but every once in a while she gets weak. I’ve had her in my house for months, she needs specialized care. She’s well enough to go back outside now...
can I ask what your set up is like? Even with a coop behind our home and one in front it’s hard to separate because we free range and they just fly over the fence.
He definitely has no confidence now but I once read on here about someone taking the aggressive roo out of the flock and putting the beat up one back in until he’s confident again. You’re removing the dominant roo from his comfort zone.
Hey everyone. I have a question about what I should do.
I have about a flock of 30 hens. We had 1 rooster who is a RIR ROO. In the spring I brought home a BCM rooster. He was young and it took some time but roosters got used to each other and were fine. The RIR was clearly the alpha and would...
So in the spring I purchased a rooster from a local woman who bought eggs from a place who breeds Black copper marans. Most of the eggs that hatched were cockerels so she was rehoming. I was looking for a BCM Roo because I have some real nice fancy BCM hens I wanted to breed. He did his job and...
Thanks for all the encouragement yall. Just wanted to update you guys. Laverne slept a lot for a good 2 days. We were waking her up to get her to eat. Yesterday her comb brightened and she feels a lot better. My husband takes her outside for “walks” and sunbathing and when she naps he brings her...
I work in vet med and euthanizing tiny animals like this is always a nightmare. Their veins are so friable and blow easily. She probably has terrible circulation because of her underlying heart issues (thus water belly) so getting a flash anywhere will mean sticking her a hundred times. She has...
The last time I had a chicken euthanized it was a nightmare. It didn’t get all of the fatal plus at once so it laid on it side floppy and drooling and suffering and took forever to die. I can’t imagine that’s better than letting her pass at home with us. We only have 1 vet locally that’ll touch...
