HELP! I lost my first hen tonight

We've had a mangey fox sniffing around for a few weeks and tonight he came earlier than normal and I heard a commotion and caught him in the act. He grabbed Rose a foot from her chicken coop. I had just brought my pyrenees inside to eat and missed intercepting him by seconds. I have farm...

    3 roosters - 1 rooster = happy coop?

I allowed a rooster I raised to attack me for months unprovoked and then he got me one day when I was bending over and I needed 12 stitches next to my EYE. I culled him and wished I had done it sooner. Not every rooster is sweet, cuddly and manageable. I almost lost an eye because I felt like...

Gave rooster away, he came back!

Hey everyone! So I had 2 roosters that were fighting. They were both hatched here at my farm. When theyd fight my turkey would jump in and then one of them started getting the best of my turkey. The turkey ends up with flystrike. We live in the country and I have a neighbor all the way down the...

    Is this leg bowed?

Hello everyone! I have a farm in SC and a month ago purchased 3 ducks from TSC (I know I know) I did what I usually do and picked 2 of the smallest ones that didn't look good and were getting trampled. I had plans on building a duck enclosure with a koi pond and river rocks so this wasn't an...

    Turkey with wound on butt

I noticed this morning when I let everyone out of the coop that my girls must've been pecking his bottom. It's pretty bad. This happened last year and I made my Tom an apron to cover it til it healed but I've just gotten off a 7 day rotation in the ER and didn't notice this. How can I treat this?

    Issues with molting?

Will do! Luckily they're young and don't have spurs yet, i have a few people im reaching out to take them. You're 💯 right about favorites, they like my leghorns and they have it worst of the bunch. I may put the boys in a rooster only coop at night til I can rehome. How do I decide what...

    Issues with molting?

I was afraid of that. I have 3 males that are less than a year and 12 girls. They free range on 10 acres but all sleep in a coop at night. I noticed the roosters get pretty rowdy at night at feeding time....maybe cause all the hens are in the same space. Looks like a few are gonna have to go.

    Issues with molting?

I've noticed several of my hens still don't have their feathers back in from their molt. Is this normal? Seems the older hens have all their feathers but the younger crowd struggling to re grow? Is there any supplements I can add to help?

Does anyone not have issues with hawks?

Why? Because you dont believe they eat worms?

Does anyone not have issues with hawks?

Maybe they're juvenile. They run, hop, and stomp on worms from the soil. Any bird that eats snakes is gonna eat a worm. It's something slithering. They're not able to tell the difference. Like someone else stated these hawks are smaller.

Does anyone not have issues with hawks?

I work for a large animal vet and he and I were just talking about this. He lives down the street and said hawks never messed with his chickens either. He said hawks have to be pretty hungry to expel energy on going after a chicken. There's mice everywhere on my farm and I imagine everyone...

Does anyone not have issues with hawks?

The rain always brings the hawks out. My rooster and the hawks were digging in the mud together looking for worms. My chickens aren't even afraid of the hawks. I've been here 3 years and never have an issue with the hawks, and the chickens go up at night.
