First go at a hatch-a-long! We lost our awesome Blue Copper Marans roo, Robert Snagclaw, so I’m trying to hatch as many eggs as I can while I still can. These eggs will be set Tuesday 5/21 and due to hatch 6/11. I have another incubator coming, so I’ll likely start another dozen when it gets...
I just have a cheapy Chinese incubator that’s giving out on day 7 - my husband thinks faulty wiring. Amazon is sending a replacement but it won’t be here for four days.
Is there anything I can do for these eggs? I’d be happy to let a hen sit on them but don’t have any broodies.
Newbie at this.
I have 12 eggs in the incubator right now on day 6. The other 8 have a lot of clear, obvious veins. I’m not really sure what I’m looking at with these ones though. Sorry for the low quality pics.
We lost our rooster unexpectedly the day before our first batch of incubator eggs were due to hatch.
We ended up with 5 out of 10 healthy little chicks! Of the remaining 5, 2 never seemed to start developing, 2 stopped around day 4-5, and 1 made it maybe a little further.
I wasn’t planning...
day 22, 4 hatched yesterday and 1 sometime overnight.
The chicks that hatched yesterday are completely dry - and getting quite rambunctious. There are 5 eggs left that don’t appear to have pipped yet.
Would it be wrong to quickly remove the empty shells and day old chicks?
I have 10 eggs on day 20, this is my first time hatching in an incubator.
2 other eggs have pipped with cracks, then this one just busted a huge hole in the egg. 😅 is that okay? It keeps moving and sticking its beak out, so I know it’s okay as of now.
Saying hi
We lost our roo this morning 😢
I have 10 eggs in the incubator now due to hatch tomorrow, and will start another round asap! He was an awesome rooster, hoping we’ll have good luck with a replacement.
Super bummed.
Wondering if anyone has chick pics of BCM roo crossed with any of the...
Was given to me as a Sapphire Gem, but in googling “sapphire gem rooster”, the images don’t quite match up.
We’re planning on incubating some of our eggs, so I’m just interested in being able to research possible genetics 😊 he’s the best boy!
Hi all!
Today my son and I each butchered and processed our first chicken ever.
The little roo went great, we just learned off of a YouTube video and everything went according to plan.
The older hen however, was FULL of layers of yellow fat.
We butchered her because she suffered frostbite on...
Been posting these guys since they were like 2 weeks old and everyone said both roos for sure.
I’ve been holding out hope that I have one of each, they’re about 10 weeks now. Thoughts?
We got this chicken a few months ago, her comb has always been floppy and gray. Barnyard mix but was told sapphire gem for sure. I’m not sure age.
We took in a sapphire gem rooster about a month before that, and he had some black discoloration on his comb as well. It is now thick, red, and...
I’ve posted these guys a couple times now. I’m technologically challenged so idk if you’re able to search my past posts/pics to see their progression, but I’m curious what the experts have to say about the golden one this time around! I definitely see some red tint coming in, but the black one...
#1: Cheepy, my son picked from the dollar bin, not sure breed or gender
#2: Garbonzo, frizzle bantam Cochin, almost certainly a roo but just wanted to include him 😂
#3: Skunk, also from the dollar bin, not sure breed or gender, or what is going on with the hairdo? Will it always be poofy like...
I was tickled to find these guys in the $2 bin 🥹 the yellow one gives off major rooster attitude, but I’m probably just being hopeful there. The black one is much more skittish and has a naked butt.
Any guesses?
I’m new to this breed and grateful for any advice or tips - they are still...
Yesterday we noticed our Easter Egger chick limping - no obvious sign of injury, leg mites, bumblefoot, etc. Both legs/feet look the same so I’m assuming she hurt it either jumping down or was trampled?
She’s currently isolated in a dog crate inside the larger run. We’ve only been chicken...
Picked up these two from the Wilco $2 dollar bin. I believe the dark is an australorp?
Any clue on breed of the blue/gender for either?
TIA!
*I had taken these pics earlier before reading the helpful tips - I can try to get some of them standing up if that would be helpful!
We rescued two chicks and one didn’t make it, so I scooped up three chicks from the dollar bin to befriend the sebright.
They weren’t labeled, assuming the one with the muffs is an Easter egger, but not sure on the other two?
