    Breed identification of day-old ducklings

I would say this is a Magpie! I have 4 Magpies, all of which look different. Their coloring did change, as well as their beaks. They progressively got more black spots on the beaks. One is also named Maggie 🤣 (the one that’s majority white)

Welsh Harlequin, Silver Appleyard, Saxony, Silver/Splash Swedish?

Looking for your opinions and experiences on these breeds of ducks: Welsh Harlequin, Silver Appleyard, Saxony, Silver/Splash Swedish I’m going to get some more female ducklings. It started at 2 but I managed to convince duck dad to be fine with 3. Well I tried to sneakily make it 5 and he drew...

    Questions about different duck breeds

Glad to hear you got them and that they’re correct! It’s always a gamble with shipping eggs in terms of viability! Fingers crossed for you

    Questions about different duck breeds

Yayyyy!!! I’m happy you decided! Let us know how the egg hatching goes!! & I have seen a decent amount of places use photos from Metzer/other hatcheries and still have great reviews! So you should be okay I would hope

    Questions about different duck breeds

I think Khakis and Cayugas will be good to start with! They seem to be a well liked breed all around! Plus, they’re adorable (aren’t they all though?) If you have an Instagram, I just made one recently for my ducks. The handle is @freckledducks You can see them up close and hear them! Maybe...

    Questions about different duck breeds

The Swedish are definitely the largest of my group! I’m not too familiar with Duclair and their personality, so I’m not sure if it’s the same. But Swedish are bigger, I think? They also make the most noise! I love it. It’s super cute. They all “alert” if frightened or what not, but just going...

    Incubating shipped duck eggs

My expectations aren’t too high, I’ve read they are fairly difficult and often need assistance when hatching. I’m glad you mentioned the lower humidity and lockdown day! That is something I did not see when looking stuff up. I will check out that article! Seems very useful

    Incubating shipped duck eggs

I am going to try hatching call ducks! I was going to get some ducklings but figured I would try hatching some myself first

    Incubating shipped duck eggs

I do have two seperate hygrometers to use, not including the Incubator one! I’ve seen 60-75% humidity is ideal for lockdown, would you say that’s about right? I’ll post updates! I’m nervous and excited 🤣

    Incubating shipped duck eggs

Awesome thankyou! Would you say 99° and 50-55% humidity (increasing during lockdown) is good to aim for? Also what day would you recommend starting lockdown? (If any make it)

    Incubating shipped duck eggs

I have some duck eggs arriving tomorrow to try my hand at hatching. My question is: do I need to subtract the 3 days it took for shipping from the total amount of days? Or do I just start at day 1 when I get them? Just trying to figure out when the lockdown period should start and what not

    Questions about different duck breeds

I will add to my reply now that I have a minute All of the breeds I currently own are fabulous! They’re all friendly. While most of mine are quite nervous at times, they do warm up quickly. They also get along great, but I got them all as ducklings at the same time. Initially my favorite were...

    Black poop

What a flirt haha I’m not surprised that’s what it is! She seems to be the most “open” to mating when the drakes attempt. I did just smear some of the poop onto paper, and it’s actually a dark brown/green. So I feel a ton better. Crazy how decieving the color can be when it’s condensed like...

    Black poop

Do you know how long after they get into the mud/dirt that their poop stays black? It’s been a few days since they would’ve had access to it I’m not sure which duck it’s coming from, but everyone seems to be fine and normal One of the cayugas has been bobbing her head up and down, like...

    Black poop

Right now their house is in our garage (getting moved outside today!) We do take them outside when the weather is good. I also feed them meal worms everyday & a few days ago added a mix of meal worms and fly larva. It doesn’t seem like everyone is having black poop, potentially just one duck...

    Questions about different duck breeds

I don’t have a whole lot of pros and cons on duck breeds, as mine are about to turn 5 months old. I have Magpies, Cayugas, Blue & Black Swedish. I did want to say though that if you’re comfy with ordering ducklings online, you can choose which sex you want from most places (like Metzer). That...

    Black poop

I’m back! Not sure if I’m paranoid or if this is actually an issue. I noticed what looks like black poop this morning. I thought I noticed this a few other times recently but brushed it off as me overthinking everything lol But this is definitely black. Is this an issue? What would cause black...

    gosling and ducklings?

Thankyou for the reply! Just read the article! I will probably end up waiting so I can get two (which was my original plan). And it would only be females! I don’t want to risk a gander hurting/killing one of my ducks from trying to mate. Thanks again!
