I am really starting to believe that Princess is actually a Prince

Is Princess looking like a cockerel to anyone else? She (well I guess maybe he) is a 6.5 week old light Brahma. The lighting is pretty bad and the comb is a bit darker than the picture shows Here is jingle my dark Brahma who is the same age for comparison

6 week old chicks to the coop

You really shouldn’t have it. I have had my chicks out full time since 5 weeks old and it has gotten into the low 40s. There is no reason to feel bad. They are going to be almost fully feathered at 6 weeks and unless it gets into the low 30s I wouldn’t even think about giving them a heat source...

Trespassing neighbor with dog chasing chickens

I hate to say it but you absolutely should call the cops and charge her for trespassing. I personally don’t mind people letting there dogs sniff around in my front yard and driveway but purposely chasing and harassing someone’s animals is completely unacceptable and stuff like that absolutely...

Official BYC Poll: How often do you change your chickens' water in hot weather?

I just change it once a week. I have a 15 or so gallon waterer that I keep about 10 gallons of water in (so I can move it easily) and it doesn’t really get dirty. I just think it is a good habit to change it even if it isn’t dirty so it seemed like a good interval which has been working good so far

10wk old - couple in question! hen or roos, please help :)

To me, the light gray and white one looks to be for sure a rooster. The one with a gold head and gray body also looks like it most likely is a rooster as well.

    Best Breed for Novice- Massachusetts

Welcome! I am a big fan of jersey giants and Brahmas. They are friendly, decent layers, and fun to hang out with. They are also pretty big so they are a bit less likely to get attacked by predators.

Hi , My name is Doreen and I bought a chicken coop to help my cat stay outside since he has RIV

Would you mind sharing the coop? A lot of the premade coops are flimsy and a strong storm or a predator could possibly break it causing your cat to escape or be injured.

    Hen or rooster

While it is pretty red, it is also a really small comb. Could you get a side profile? I personally would be more concerned about the two behind it being roosters. But I am not that great at this so wait for others to chime in

    Chicken Seeking chicken

It sounds like jersey giants and Brahmas may be the way to go. Both can exceed 10 pounds and at least from what I have seen, are pretty smart. I two of each and both my Brahmas are goofballs and super friendly. My giants are also friendly but just seem a little more wary and seem to have a bit...

Best Chicken Breeds to Breed for Selling?

Definitely a beautiful breed! How would you house them? They probably can’t be free ranged well so a really large run is what will be used right?

Does everyone stress ordering chicks the first time 😱

Still better than I would do. I think I would end up keeping 5+ 🤣

Does everyone stress ordering chicks the first time 😱

Sorry, I worded that weird. I meant they aren’t charging you double (as in the first that was messed up and then the one that will be coming). I wasn’t suggesting that you do that, just that I could see that possibility being the reason you weren’t given a discount

Does everyone stress ordering chicks the first time 😱

They are replacing them for free though right? At least to me, I can kinda see why they didn’t. You did get over 20 chicks for free and even if you sold them for $1 each, that is still a pretty big discount off of 4 (I am not making that up right?) chicks. I am obviously biased as I that is...

When can I switch to this waterer?

I started getting mine to use it at 4 weeks old. What I did was I took out there chick waterer and sat down next to it as they liked jumping all over me. Then I started to ‘peck’ at them with my fingers. Then the little droplets of water would sit on that little rim under it and then when they...

    6 week old chicks!

My 6 chicks turned 6 weeks old today and just wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts are on their sex. I have 2 brahmas, 2 jerseys giants (only one pictures due to the other looking almost undeniably female), a barred rock, and a buff Orpington. At least to me all are looking like pullets except...
