    Rescuing mallard duckling

Aww I love that you still get to see Zazu! I wonder if she will come back around for a visit in the spring? You’ll have to keep us posted. After two months of a frozen lake, the duck flock is back on the edges where it’s starting to melt. We have been looking with binoculars and think we see...

    Rescuing mallard duckling

I still think of your little Zazu. Any sign of her? Did the flock stick around this season? I miss our girls terribly, but have enjoyed watching all the new ducks visiting the lake.

    Rescuing mallard duckling

True! I have watched our two hens happily splash around in their flock of 23 since they left. I still watch them fly every day after sunset, but I was unsure if they’d ever come back and visit. They have definitely moved on with their new friends. But we do get quacked at here and there when...

    Rescuing mallard duckling

Aww! I love that you still get to see her in the flock around the neighborhood… and she found a mate. 😊 Such a sweet story. Keep us updated! It’s been two weeks since mine girls joined their flock, but I’ve see them every day fly just after sunset. I have a feeling once spring comes around...

Heartbroken. My two mallard girls flew off from their home lake. They are no where to be found.

Aww thank you for your message. It’s been 1 week 1 day since I saw them last. However, I do see them fly with their new flock of 12 every single day since. They seem to rest on our lake during the day and fly in the direction of the park lake across the street or open farmland. I sometimes see...

Heartbroken. My two mallard girls flew off from their home lake. They are no where to be found.

They started to stay out of their coop/run for a few days and I think they met the other mallards on the lake. We think they joined the flock. They keep flying between our lake and the lake across the street. We are surrounded by farms. Hope to see them again one day! Lots of drakes showed up...

    Rescuing mallard duckling

I love this story! Wishing Zazu all the best. We just had our two mallard hens (5.5 months old) join a wild flock this week, and they all hang out in the corner of our lake. I’ve been dreading this day, but so happy to see them join other ducks and look forward to seeing them fly in morning and...

Heartbroken. My two mallard girls flew off from their home lake. They are no where to be found.

Heartbroken. Our two 5.5 month mallard girls decided to explore beyond our lake and haven’t come back. We have two mallard girls who have been raised since they were babies. Very bonded, and live in a coop/run with daily outdoor foraging. They usually come in before dark, and have only stayed...

Duck run fall/winter set up for two mallard hens

Hi all! I have two sweet mallard hens that are just approaching 16 weeks. They are very bonded and love to fly to our backyard lake in the evenings. They even join us on our fishing boat when we are out. 😄 they are a hoot and we love having them around. They currently are in a decent sized run...

I have 2 female mallards that are flying daily to the lake. How frequent should we let them fly?

Hi all! I have 2 female mallards (12 and 13 weeks old). One hatched and raised, and now a tame but strong duck and is the oldest. We got her a friend for company and this duck came from a farm around 7 weeks old. They have bonded quickly and have taken flights to our backyard lake almost every...

Male or female 9 week old mallard? Video of quacking. Also, is 9 weeks too young for our duck to be on the lake?

I know that’s why I want it to be a bit bigger with an established flock before really enjoying the lake. 😅🥺

Male or female 9 week old mallard? Video of quacking. Also, is 9 weeks too young for our duck to be on the lake?

Thanks for the reply! This duck loves the lake and we were able to herd it back to its enclosure. I’m just afraid everytime I let it out, it will fly to the lake and it’s still so small when it’s wet lol. Lots of other lake birds like geese, swans and herons. Several turkey vultures, too. We did...

Male or female 9 week old mallard? Video of quacking. Also, is 9 weeks too young for our duck to be on the lake?

Trying to figure out if we have a male or female duckling. It still peeps but occasionally we get this type of quack. From what I read, it seems like males make quacks before they turn whispery. Is that true? We thought we had a drake. Also, is 9 weeks too young to be out on the lake? We have...

Integrating new duck to solo mallard.

Hi all! I have a 9 week old mallard that has been raised solo because it’s mate passed early on. We were able to get it a friend and she’s about 8 weeks old. The oldest mallard has been transitioning outside in its coop and run for about 3 days overnight, and has been in the coop and run for...

    Call duck friend for mallard?

There are several geese that hang out on the land. We haven’t seen any mallards in months. Usually groups of them come around November. I only considered a call duck to give the mallard company as well as a backyard pet for us.
