Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

I have never been humbled faster in my life than when I mispronounced Queztzalcoatlus to my 5 year old. I also got a very disgusted look for calling them dinosaurs during the same conversation. I know they're technically not dinosaurs, but people refer to them as it so its normally socially...

Things you wish you could say

I wish I could say that I have been on my best behavior and top tier mom mode today as it's technically a holiday, but chronic pain is messing with me, and I am tired and not as engaged as I would like to be. At least I can say that the kiddo hasn't seemed to notice anything and thinks today has...

Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

I was raised a weird mixture of pagan on one side of the family and southern baptist on the other and nowadays I'm a whole lot of nothing religious to be honest. Agnostic maybe? Like, maybe there's something out there, but I sure haven't seen it and am not bothering to look anymore.

Do you have (occasionally) chickens or other poultry in your house?

Ours stay outside once they're old enough for now until we get our own place again and we can allow them to free-range more. We actually just had our one pekin in today so I could check him out in the light out of the wind and snow after I'd seen he had blood on his foot and tail. I wasn't...

Ooph, do we even want to know what animals these are? First thing that comes to my mind is dogs but it could be something even worse...

Unsure what these little guys/gals are

Thank you! I'll take a look at hoover's colored egger pages and see if that helps narrow it down! Which one are you thinking looks like a cockerel? Pics 1 & 2 or picture 3? I ask because I've been suspecting that Poopbird (1 & 2) is a cockerel for a couple of weeks. This is not the best...

Unsure what these little guys/gals are

Got some better lighting pictures today of two of them. Please excuse any poop on the first two pictures, that one likes to sleep directly under their two siblings who sleep on the perch and sometimes they get a "shower." The third picture of the other one shows the coloration the other two...

Louise's wing, one of our turkens

I wish we could see all this pretty patterning a bit more on her wing! Unfortunately though, when she's settled and it's all tucked in you can't really see it.

For the love of all things, stop vaping in the grocery store and every public place. I just want to get my groceries without itchy, watery eyes because you can't go 5 minutes without your cotton candy nicotine water. 😭😭

We're also in Hanover, not too far from the high school! We're also in the middle of restarting our flock, we unfortunately suffered a dog massacre a few years back and are rebuilding our coop and run to be much stronger.

How are your local feed/animal supply/chick stores doing?

I only personally saw chicks and ducklings when we got ours. That was Mar. 4 at tractor supply, and we got some of our ducklings the day after at Big R (some are from a local farm.) Since then, I've seen turkeys at big R, once, but nothing anywhere else. So it seems like it's like this basically...

    Issues with neighbors dogs

We lost our entire 18 hen flock a few years back to dogs over the course of 2 attacks over 2 weeks. First time we never figured out how they got in, and they just ripped the entire gate down the second time. It was crazy and I still don't understand how the dogs managed that. We had chased the...

Why are they so fixated on not liking her then?? Like, I could get the frustration if she was peeing often (although personally I would be more concerned something was wrong than annoyed with her if that was the case) but that's so weird to just dislike an animal for no reason, I'm sorry you're...

I think they're in the process of changing their name to hatchandgather due to being sold, just in case anyone is having a hard time finding their site down the line! I think the new website and old website are both still up and working though.

How are your local feed/animal supply/chick stores doing?

My godson called me yesterday after he left his local tractor supply and witnessed an employee having a fairly spectacular (but probably deserved from the sound of it) meltdown on a customer and then quitting on the spot. He said his cashier said this was one of the worst chick seasons they've...

As someone who grew up in a cat hoarding house, there really isn't a worse smell. So, I don't blame them for being upset, but if its a 1-time thing then they need to let it go, she's a cat, not someone trying to be malicious to anyone or anything. That said, if its a normal thing or even if...
