I just deleted a response to your question after seeing @NanaK answer. I didnt want to confuse you any further.
Both doses are correct, there are many variables.
If I understand correctly, NanaK has sucessfully treated her hen with a similar issue using 250mg x2 per day.
I Would try this dose...
I agree. Especially presenting these symptoms before and seemingly improving.
There is so many things it could be and you may never know exactly.
I would keep on with the vitamins and maybe even a round of antibiotics would not hurt.
I have a routine of worming/mite prevention, dosing every spring and every fall.
You will always find folks who agree or strongly disagree with preventive measures.
I have waited for symptoms as some would suggest and when I had an infestation of mites in a pen and the work it took to get rid...
O man,
I am so,so sorry. Its painful to watch and its painful to cull.
He will be missed because he was also a farm pet. No shame in that. It sure is hard to do.
I have no treatment or remedy advice.
Ive had a rooster present with the same symptoms but was not a pet so no real effort was...
Exactly.
WAY to overwhelmed with another breed standard.
Marans are enough for the rest of my life! Haha
It is nice to have another breed that you have to do nothing.
I had 12.
1 blank, 1 blood ring,
10 went into lockdown
6 survived but 1 is not doing well. Time will tell.
They were shipped.
I hate shipped eggs. Cells get scrambled and cause a lot of issues.
But 5 are thriving. I know their line and I only need 1 pullet, 1 cockerel to reenforce my line :)...
Guys,
A prime example of the yellowish feet. He is maybe 24 hours old. The color is actually a pinkish/yellow in real life.
This time next week, I will not be able to tell who this is. The color will have changed to pink.
This chicks lineage is unquestionable. He is Pure Imported Marans line...
Yep. Work with what you have.
There is no benefit in replacing him with the same line he came from.
You will have to grow out a lot of cockerels to maturity to see their temperament but why not?
That is how anyone breeding for temperament begins.
It sounds like you have a good start with...
I have, when I didnt have a choice I needed to breed a mean one once.
Yes, I ended up with a few nice ones but also some mean ones.
Its understandable if you must, just dont make it a practice because there is a genetic link.
But you could also have a really nice rooster throw nasty cockerels...
I did "Mars bars" one year. Marans/ Legbar cross for olive eggs.
I hate the name too.
But they make a nice bird. Like a Marans with a mohawk. Egg color was nice for f1+f2.
Last frost date is in May?
I would have thought later. Thats good.
And they smell good.
But they go broody more than lay eggs in my experience.
Sweet, useless birds.
Especally the bearded ones!
Totally ornamental. Cuddly.
