@chickendreams24
unfortunately the chick did not make it. It had both the fluid build up at the base of the wing and a red knob that developed on the second joint of the wing, and began walking on its knees with its feet up by its ears. I was going to cull, but thankfully it was taken out of my...
well the chick I was worried about just self culled by drowning in the water dish, it wedged its head between marbles.
....and here I was researching the most humane ways of culling chicks. didn't figure it would be taken out of my hands so quickly.
so at the beginning of the day I thought the upside down chick with the bubble on its back was doing better. I started giving oral antibiotics last night and the large fluid bubble disappeared by morning. However I just got home after being out most the day. The chick is still active, but its...
it's mainly the big fluid bubble at the base of the wing that has me worried at this point. The navel is almost closed and looking clean.
I'm still putting ointment in the eye of the chick from last week. Now I have another freak hatch accident :he
I forgot to add in my post that I did put on bacitracine. I was having a heck of a time first logging on, then actually getting what I wrote to post without disappearing
SO FRUSTRATED WITH BYC RIGHT NOW!!!
I hope this posts.
so the second upside down pipper hatched without issues, but the one who pipped day before yesterday, was still in the shell and the Egg was developing a smell so I decided to assist.
It had one wing partially out and as I opened the hole...
have 3 new chicks this morning. the serama that hatched last night & 2 serama X EE. Both the upside down chicks are alive but still working on getting out of their eggs.
So this hatch is not going well.
Most of the eggs had funky air cells to begin with. However out of a dozen eggs 9 made it to lock down.
5 serama, 2 serama X EE, 2 bantam EE. 3 of the serama had their air cells collapse in on them at draw down. One of the remaining serama pipped into a vein and...
so all remaining eggs have externally pipped. both the EEs piped upside down :( the first has made more progress since I opened the hole a little more for it. One of the serama is almost out
update on hatch.
upside down piper is still alive. I chipped away some of the shell this morning so we'll see if that helps at all. Have two Serama and a serama X EE that externally piped last night
Thanks, The hardest part (other than the smell) was that the one with a fully absorbed yolk never internally pipped. I think the air cell collapsed and it just couldent move to get airthe membrane wasnt white and dry like shrink wrap, more like the inner membrane just pulled away from the outer.
OMG!!!!!
I opened the incubator to check on the upside down pip and was hit by a HORRIBLE smell! The upside down pip is still alive and the smell wasn't coming from that egg. I took out the 3 serama that looked like they had collapsed air cells and opened the tops. All where dead, and sure...
So this hatch is not going well..... I have one EE that piped a hole upside down, and isn't making much progress. PLUS 3 of the serama with bad air cells look like the membrane nearly fully detatched during draw down and I really don't think the chicks are going to have the ability to move into...
