One of the people here in town had to find a new home for their flock of 12 week old pullets and I so wanted to take them. I don't know why they had to get rid of them immediately, but 8 more pullets would have been awesome. When we win the lottery I am so enlarging our property. :fl

So, did you find it? We went fishing on Monday, caught 55 fish, 6 lbs of perch, every single one was a female and they were biting so fast we had a hard time keeping up. Made 3 lbs of fillets, fish taco time!!! Looks like the rainy season is starting, we got 1.5 inches of rain last night so I...

And grats to you on yours. It's a heck of a fight, eh? Exactly, and garlic is so undemanding, that sounds ideal.

You should probably check in with doctor anyway, you might have cracked something. I fell a couple times some years back and I got a terrible infection on a little scratch on my shinbone. It was just like a burn and took years to get the feeling completely back. I've also lost about 80+ pounds...

Jim, so glad to hear from you and even happier it's going so well! That supervising stuff is hard work too. :)

I wish he would too. Looking into getting some temp fencing I can put up to let the ladies wander a bit and pick up bugs and worms. I tried to let them out the other day and only 4 came out, 2 did great and wandered about pecking at things and the other 2 panicked at the sight of out little dog...

I'm sure he's fine if plenty sore, I just want confirmation.

Nothing from Jim yet? Planted a bunch of fall and winter veg in the garden, moved about 1/4 of the finished compost into the raised beds for those crops. The pullets are regularly giving us 6 or 7 eggs a day now, but the speckled sussex haven't laid yet.

Truer words were never spoken. I love that name. Please tell me there's a sign. Finally got started moving and managing the compost bins and clearing out the spent raised beds. If all eggs are laid today by lunch (we should have 7 eggs from 10 pullets today), I'm thinking of letting the girls...

Dang, Jim isn't here now and I'm late again! Jim, I hope that all went well! And have Dan move your computer!

Thanks for the concern, the fires are far from us though. Other than the small one some idiot started in the campground near us. It was put out before it burned more than an acre. That said, we did have that discussion. DP wanted to say she'd stay and I would go and I said nuts to that. Our...

I made fresh tomato soup today, froze some and we had some for lunch. The smoke makes working outside unpleasant so we've been staying indoors and I have plenty of produce to process. We have 5 dependable layers and one of the other girls laid a tiny egg with a good solid shell in the boss hen's...

5 eggs today out of 10 pullets and no thin shells on the poop boards, I'm really hoping that time plus the diet changes have helped. I made liver and onions with mashed potatoes for lunch today, yummmm.

Holy moly Cap, you kick much butt! On a side note, there is so much smoke in the air it's dusk at 5 pm instead of 7:30 pm. No fires near us but the smoke is filling the coast.

I haven't let the girls out of the run yet though that is the plan once the garden starts shutting down for the winter. I want them to have egg laying, where and when, settled before giving them a chance to hide their eggs in the yard. Pie and wine are both awesome options Jim, I so love rhubarb...

Jim, what are you going to do with all that rhubarb? I'll only get a few peppers this year, I am a terrible pepper grower. I have to pick most of the tomatoes other than the cherry tomatoes once they start blushing, otherwise, the slugs and snails take a few bites out of them by the time they're...

For certain I have 4 layers now. Both easter eggers are laying pretty light turquoise eggs and I think the BO and a sussex are laying light brown eggs. There were 2 thin shelled eggs on the poop boards this morning and no stealth egg but the BO was sitting in that nest box later this morning so...

Another one of our hens laid her first egg today. It's a pretty cream that's almost pink. I think it's one of the sussex. So I now have 2 layers! And I'm glad I opened all the nest boxes, whomever it was laid it in the top right box, as far from Glyness' favorite box as possible.

DP loves hers, we never travel without it. I love shopping days, I listen to podcasts on my shopping days. Unless DP comes with me and that's even better, the drive is so beautiful.

Been really windy here but that's pretty normal, but I would love to get some rain. Next big project is going to be putting in the drip watering system. I tried soaker hoses but it's just too much wasted water, and the water bill has been murder.
