Thank you! How do you dry it afterwards?

Anybody have tips on cleaning silkie crests? My girls have dried mud clumps stuck to their crest feathers and it's driving me nuts. I'm not sure what to do. I'm about to bathe them but I have no idea what to about their crests. I've only washed their bodies in the past.

Updates from our farm! We've been trying to rehome the majority of our silkies and keep only a few for next years breeding. We took our 2 1/2 month olds to a youth entrepreneur fair and let kids (and adults) pet them. Some of the interactions were simply adorable! Silkies are really special...

Okay, so here's the deal. One of my 2 1/2 month old silkies has a small single comb. So does one of her full brothers (same mom and dad). I don't know if any other chicks of mine have had single combs. But the problem is, she's the largest and I think has the best body type of all my silkie...

Can anybody educate me about the single comb gene? Two of my silkie chicks have single combs. I won't be breeding them of course, but I need to get to the bottom of this. None of the parents have funky combs so this must be a recessive gene? I got the rooster last fall. I don't know much about...
