we had too much rain. my coops are still muddy. I don't have time to do anything about that as I need to make a few coops. my goat shed flooded as well and 2 of my 3 girls are almost ready to give a birth. too much work for a pair of old hands. on top of that only 50% of my photovoltaic system...

I lost the smallest silkie, no idea how. puppies made a hole in their run fence so probably she got out. the other 2 were out as well but they are almost double size of the missing one. it must have been hawk as I didn't find a single feather.
today one of 6 mo german shepherd/greek shepherd mix entered my silkie's run looking for the eggs. I heard horrible noise and ran to see what happened. my 8 silkies were chasing and pecking poor puppy who could not find the way out:lau
you can put it under the hen at night. I don't think you should wait a few days. chicks like company. put it where there is another chick of the same or similar colour.

single comb chicks came from both roos I used for breeding. I wanted to give up silkies but blue based partridge chicks are so adorable that I'm tempted to keep them. I also hatched a red chick that looks like male. he is the reason I cannot give up silkies but might be recessive for single comb.
I sold a beautiful blue based partridge silkie hen who was responsible for single comb chicks. it seems that only cockerels had single combs. is it maybe sex linked?
