    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I might just have to try filing. I’ll be a lot less nervous about cutting something. Also thanks for the info about the beaks and a light. I would have just trimmed with out looking had I not known.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Knowing that others birds with wry tail are thin makes me feel a bit better. That helps point me in the direction of a probable cause for being thin. I’ll try experimenting with foods. She seemd to like the blueberry I gave her the other day. Maybe mixing some high protein food moth mashed...

I’ll give it a try sure. I want her to be okay. I’m not keen on it, feels mean to me. That said, this is about improving her quality of life not stopping her from pecking. Thanks for the reply!

Are they often thin too? She’s just thinner than anyone else. I see her eat but she never seems to get a very full crop, not like all the other hens that make pigs of themselves. I’ll try to trim her beak. She’s not gonna like that she doesn’t want me to mess with it. I’ll also try to pay...

Here are some pics of her beak. I’m just worried about her.

I don’t have any that show her beak. It’s hard to get a good one. I can try and get something when I get home later. I’ve seen her eating but I couldn’t say for sure that she’s getting a lot of food. She pecks at the ground when she’s out for a little free range time. Thanks for the reply.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

One of my silkies isn’t quite right. Her beak is a bit twisted like it was put on at an angle. I’ve also noticed she walks with a bit of a hitch. And she is just thin. She doesn’t act sick and if one of the bigger chickens wants her to move she can move quickly. A lot of this I didn’t notice...

Yeah and I’ll have to find them new homes. Gonna have to start looking for the black one now. He real enjoys his morning crow.

Thank you! They are 14 weeks old. I don’t think I have any current pictures that show the comb. I have one from when they were about 8 weeks old and one that slightly shows the face from yesterday I’ll post. The splash was my guess for a possible second cockerel.

Here are some pics of the “chicks” out enjoying a little free range. I’ve confirmed the black one is a cockerel. Caught him crowing and then when one of the d’Uccles was trying to get a dust bath he hopped on top of her. I grabbed him and told him he needed better manners. Also I noticed this...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Chick two looks like a normal walnut comb to me. But I’m no expert. Not sure about chick one. The silkie in my avatar pic has a single comb, but I don’t think I have any good pictures of her as a chick that would show it off. Of course she’s as far from a breed standard specimen as one can get...

Sadly, I live in town. Plus I know for a FACT one of two neighbors would complain, maybe both. Neither live right next door but close enough they’d most likely hear a rooster.

I’ve never been so sad about not getting to keep roosters! Seeing all these cute babies and just wanting to breed my own. I’ll just have to follow along and enjoy all the pics. Thanks for sharing!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

If I could have roosters I might try a breeding project. It would be fun but that’s out for me. I just was wondering if it was possible. Sounds like it is! Perhaps if I want one I’ll just have to see if I can order some. Thanks for the answer. Thanks for the response. I’d love to try a...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Dumb question. I know people on here enjoy breeding colors so thought someone might have an idea, would it be possible to breed a silkie that had an egg color other than tint? Like blue, or green? Could you introduce a colored egg gene and then re breed for silkie but keep the colored egg...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Thank you. I didn’t think about just getting extra and then finding new homes for the pullets I didn’t want. It’s not that I don’t want more chickens, I just have specific breeds I’d want and none of them are gonna be found at the local feed store. Plus I was waiting a few years to add more...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Anyone have any experience with giving a day old chick to a broody silkie? My black hen has been broody for awhile and I don’t have a rooster so the egg she is sitting on will never hatch. My local feed store should get chicks in next week and, while I don’t really want to get anymore chickens...
